If you're looking for an Argosy Motorhome....

I've looked at this one several times, but just couldn't make a decision about it. 1977 Airstream Argosy Classic 28 DOUBLE - Class A Gas - Details
Rig 'appears' solid, and actually got the dealer down to below $5K over a year ago, but really wanted something else. If anyone knows of someone looking for an Argosy, here's a good starting point.

PS I don't work for these guys, just would love to see this rig purchased by someone who could make it proud!

I am thinking about buying a 1976 argosy motor home . Asking price $3,000 but here are the issues !
Tires are bad and called around and the tires are about $300 each over $1000 to replace .
R/s front wind shield needs replace call around and air stream dealer can order the windshield and rubbers total cost $1000 not encluding labor .

I went to look a 2nd time and the raditor hose had a hole and now needs replace so could not take it for a ride the seller did replace 2 batteries (new) to get the eng. Started . Sliding windows gaskets some need replaced and a few glass tracks need replaced.
I could not try out the water functions , seller has bad water pressure.
Did try out all electric items and all work.

Now the good things !!!
Argosy body is in real good shape has been inside out of the weather.
And in side rv is in real good shape and all works --the electric side as that was all i could check.could not check propane as it is out so could not check the stove etc.

Not ever buying a moble rv and not sure on the asking price not sure were to go from here.

We first started at $6000 got her to $3500 then told her about the front windshield and the cost and got the seller down to $3000 and on my return to review the argosy once a gain in side awning and generator which all worked well . But tires looked worse then i frist looked at and all 6 to buy would be over $1000.
The help i need is were should i go from her with the asking price were i have gotten the seller to $3000 which i think now may be to high and do not want to get in to a money pit . Need help asap all george

Gossman: All old RV's, especially motorhomes are money pits. You have already got the poor owner down to half the price she wanted. You are not going to get a new rig for a few thousand dollars. Yes, tires, windshields, hot water heaters, refrigerators, furnaces, brakes, electrical and suspension issues all cost money. Eventually the engine and transmission will need work. Figure a couple of thousand dollars a year, depending on who does the repair. Then there is insurance, license fees, and the cost of gas at 8 to 10 mpg.

I think I got a heck of a deal on mine, but for comparison...

Last May, I bought a 77 24' moho for $3500. It was in good enough shape to drive it 7 hours to home and had since been on 2 camping trips accounting for another about 800 miles. It needed a few cosmetic and maintenance items.

Based on the description of the moho you're looking at, I think the price ought to be lower still.
