Fuel line replacement

I have a 1976 Argost 20 ft. Seems to need a new line. The seller replaced it with some inapproiate rubber tubing and it leaks like a seive. Do I need to drop the tank or is it accessable?

MAM, I missed your original post.

I can't tell you what size that is but your best bet is to remove the old one and take it with you to a place like NAPA who should be able to find something matching that is fuel rated. The odds are the previous owner used something like a radiator hose when they replaced it. As you've just found out that type of hose doesn't work to well for fuel related areas.

On our 20' Argosy motorhome we have two fuel tanks, one on the left side and one in the rear which is definitely custom made, probably by Airstream. The rear tank won't be to hard to replace the hose, the side tank will have to be dropped to replace the hose.

By the way you might want to try posting your Argosy Motorhome questions in the Motorhome section of the forums. Its easier to keep track of Motorhome related issues that way.

Good luck!

Brad

I replaced mine on my 1984 Airstream 34.5. Was able to replace without dropping the tank. Went to NAPA they have two different type of hoses one more flexible than the other. I have used both the more flexible one is the way to go.

I replaced mine on my 1977 Argosy 28. It also was done without dropping the tank. My hose must have been the more rigid one since it was a bear to bend properly. I had to remove the sofa behind the driver and the inside cover that keeps gasoline vaours outside to gain access. Good luck!

Gates makes a very good flexible fuel fill line, in fractional sizes even. Use an accurate caliper to measure to within 1/8 inch, then the length you need.

See here: Gates Marine Engine Fuel Fill Hose - 4663K Fuel Tank Filler - Corrugated

I found what I needed for my SOB moho online, once I had a part number. Annoying at best, to see the hose sweating from its midsection right after putting over 100 gallons at last summer's prices!
Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I just picked up my moho yesterday after they fabricated a metal line that has a 90'0 angle for a real slow fill. I have not tried it yet. I am still at the ouch phase. MAM

Welcome. It is great to see another Argosy 20 motorhome owner on-board.

My fill tube is OK but it is a pain to fill. I think my vent is blocked and the gas fuel fill shuts off if I pull the level all the way out. I have to fill it with the lever 1/4 pulled and watch it carefully so I don't over-fill it.

Hey Thadster! I got my fuel filler hose from the local GM truck dealer. I chatted up the parts guy and he found a part number and could order it.I think it was sort of generic since it was about 6 inches too long. I remember wrestling with it and I put it in a pail of hot water to make it more pliable. Once I quickly dried it off, it went without too much bad language or skinned knuckles. Good luck!
