First Trip

I am getting ready for my first big trip with the motor home. Any suggestions on stuff I should address prior to it? I'm doing all the belts and hoses plus fluids.

I will be pulling my 20' SeaRay on the 300 mile round trip. Hopefully all goes well!

Oh boy, now theres a question. Safety first, id check your DOT date stamp on your tires. If they are over 6 to 7 yrs old you should consider replacement. Check your steering and front end for excessive play, safety issue goin down the road. Ive done so much to my 310 over the past year to get it ready for our first LONG trip i think you would fall asleep before you finished reading it. How are your air bags in the suspension front and rear? We have gotten out 100 miles or so from home and keep increasing our distance as i become more confident in the coach. I would just say think safety first for you and your family and then go from there.

Well my tires are new so no worries there. Front end has been gone over and everything is solid. Went over every u joint in the vehicle too.

Airbags, what airbags? mine rotted out a long time ago and eventually I will replace them but it drives just fine for now. Probably in late July I will replace those unless I notice problems on this trip.

I've been driving the motorhome all over for the past year or so since I first put it on the road. Never had any trouble with it and I even haul my boat to the lake and back. It's a sixty Mike round trip with lots of steep hills and does just fine. It actually uses less gas than my truck!

I would suggest extra fuses (chassis and coach) and an extra fuel filter for your first trip.

Ditto on the fuses. Had fuse problems on the very first trip driving the 310 home from Savannah Georgia to Little Rock Arkansas. Spent the first night fiddling with the coach wiring to get lights and the furnace to work.

Voltmeter, stripper and crimper, some various lengths of wire, and of course a good assortment of wrenches and sockets!

Enjoy your trip!

You think it drives well now. Just wait until you replace those front air bags. You won't believe what they do to improve the handling.

Matt,

Before replacing the airbags consider replacing the springs themselves with up-rated springs that eliminates the need for the air bags. In my opinion the airbags are nothing but a maintenance nightmare, a real pain to replace and you constantly have to monitor the air pressure. I just put new standard springs in my Argosy which means I need to install airbags but I'm seriously considering buying the up-rated springs just so I can eliminate the maintenance headache.

From everything I've read the up-rated springs provide just as good a ride as you get with air bags without the headaches. The springs aren't that expensive and you only have to do them once
