Feeler or Antenna?

At the risk of being laughed out of this forum...

Our '77 Argosy had what looked like an antenna on the roof, front and center. It broke off. We took the coach in for a paint job, and they asked if we wanted it replaced. Well, I guess that depends on what it was for. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is it an antenna for the AM/FM radio, or is it like a "curb feeler" for bridges?

Finally, anyone know where I can find a replacement? We're restoring, so the more original, the better.

Thanks, all.

Sara

Missing Antenna

Sara,

The missing antenna was a TV UHF/VHF antenna. It was a Skyliner made by Braund. I don’t know that they are in business anymore but there are vintage supply places that still sell parts. Mine on my 77 is still intact and works great.

Most of the new digital channels are in between the frequencies of the older analog channels so these antennas work fine for over the air digital TV.

Somewhere in your motorhome there should be an outlet with a standard 12vdc outlet along with a 2 pin “twin lead” jack for the antenna signal.

From time to time I see some people intentionally removing these older antennas and you may pick one up for the taking.

These antennas were very popular on RVs during the 70s and 80s.

Good luck
Gregg

Sara,

On some Argosies there there are or were two antenna's on the roof. There was a TV antenna on all of them and some had CB antennas as well.

This side view of my Argosy shows the original TV antenna right in front of the air conditioner. I've since replaced that TV antenna for a more modern digital unit.

In this picture you can see the CB antenna is mounted to the front center marker light pod. I've only seen the CB antennas mounted like this on Argosies. I've not seen any Classics with CB antennas mounted on the light pod.

Here's a couple of pictures of the later Argosies with CB antennas mounted on the front center marker light pods.

As far as a replacement antenna this one this one would probably work.

Thank you!

Thank you, Gregg and Brad! Between the information you've both replied, I'm sure I have the info I need. So grateful for all the help on this forum!
