Does your Argosy run on LP gas?

Hi guys,
My 1976 Argosy 28 footer is set up by the factory to run on conventional gasoline or on propane. There is a simple rocker switch on the dashboard which allows you to switch from gasoline to LP. I have been told by a mechanic who was helping me change the exhaust manifolds, that this is dangerous and should be disabled as chaffed lines could cause propane to drift around the engine sparks and ignite.
Is this system worth keeping, or should it be disabled. Is it useful or is propane much more expensive to run? Is it dangerpous, or is the mechanic simply a "Road Worryer"?
Also, I learned that my notorious exhaust manifold noises were not entirely caused by the exhaust manifolds, but were contributed to by the rusted choke stack, which is a heat exchanger to preheat the choke mechanism. This leak was very near the propane feed which is why the mechanic was concerned. My thoughts are that even if it ignited, it would not travel back to the tank, but I would rather not take any chances and I am happy to disable that system if it is considered dangerous to myself or my family. Or should I just raise the limits on my wife's life insurance?

Propane is cleaner to operate on and good to have when fuel(gas) is not in supply. I have had numerous vehicles that were operated on propane and have had great results. I wiould diable the system until the repairs can be made. If you want to sell the complete system let me know. I wouldn't mind an alternate souce of fuel in my coach. An upgrade to an aluminum aftermarket manifold and coated hedders would make a great performance improvment. JOEY

that's the first Argosy like that I have heard of. If it is worth it to you to replace the questionable parts and get that system going maybe there could be some incentive in your area for having a lower pollution vehicle.
