Argosy water fill problem

I recently discovered a problem with the water fill in my '74 Argosy. Seems that the factory used a piece of semi-rigid polyethylene pipe (like the black stuff often used in home lawn irrigation systems) to attach the water fill to the tank. The stuff was too rigid to draw up properly when clamped. Thus, a nice little leak occurred there every time the motor home was driven with a near-full tank. Water would wick its way under the tank and stay there for a long time.

The problem became apparent when I pulled the tank for an unrelated project. The plywood beneath had turned to sawdust. The 1/8" wall rectangular tubing of the floor structure had actually rusted away completely in a couple of places - that's a lot of rusting!

I think this problem existed from day one. If you have an early Argosy, you might want to check it out.

Mine was flexible tube, but it also had a hole completely through the plywood from a loose connection. It really is a good place to check periodically, especially after filling.
