We are preparing for a re-pipe of original water piping in the after part of our 78 rear-bath Argosy MH. Will be installing 3/8” Pex and are leaning toward SharkBite over crimp-on fittings. While SharkBite will be more expensive, they will make the installation much easier with no need to remove any cabinets, panels, doors, etc. Additionally, if there are any future leaks, replacing pipe or fittings will be simpler with no crimping needed.

Other than cost, is there a major downside to SharkBite fittings in this application? Anyone have experience with off-brand SharkBite fittings; good or bad?

I personally went with the Uponor/Wirsbo PEX A system. The system uses expanded collars that contract over the fittings. No leaks what so ever; expansion tool can be easily rented at the place you buy the PEX tubing and fittings.
You can You Tube a tutorial on use and installation technics.

Sharkbites can leak; some say, will eventually leak. The fittings are considerably more expensive than Uponor/Wirsbo fittings and won't be freeze proof.

The sharkbite seal is a rubber o-ring, I've heard good things about them, but I wouldn't trust it to last 30 years getting bounced down the road, super handy in a pinch though

The pexA system has an expander that looks roughly like a rivet gun (or handheld drill), the crimp rings are like a giant set of pliers, between the two of them and with some careful planning I'd think you could get it done. I would go that route over sharkbite.

Look into the pinch clamps. Takes less space to install compared to the crimp collars. The push seal type fittings are a nice option though.

Thanks to all for the input. Since we are not pulling out the cabinets, etc, access is limited so we are continuing to look at the various options.

I redid our 280 rear bath without pulling any cabinets. I did pull the plywood sheet under the mattress on the galley side, everything else was crawling around and fishing stuff through with a cheap electricians fish tape. I also put as much as I could in foam pipe insulation, helps in the long run to the shower.
