Argosy door light

I would like to replace the door light lense with a new one but after looking at all of the Argosies on Fred's Site I'm beginning to think mine is unique.

Anyone recognize this door light? If so any suggestions on where to buy a replacement lense?

There are no holes above the door that indicate someone might have removed an overhead one. I can only assume Airstream built mine this way.

Thanks!

Brad

I have two door lights, neither of which look like yours.

Brad.

That is an after market light that has several uses.

I know that the complete light is still available, but I am not sure about just the lens.

The light over the entrance door has been used by Airstream for over 40 years, and is called an "entrance door light".

The round light in your photo, has been used by Airstream for about 50 years, and is called a "scare light".

Turning it on when someone knocks on the door at night time, does scare the person that did the knocking.

Can you point me to where I could order one of these lights? The housing is somewhat brittle as well so total replacement makes the most sense.

Thanks,

Brad

Looks like a pretty generic RV porch light. Here are some offered by Amazon or check with any local rv supply.

I had seen those lights when I was searching for just the lens. I'll see what Andy comes up with before I decide what to buy. It just seems odd to me that my Argosy MH is the only one I've seen what that style of light. No holes above the door to indicate a light was ever installed there. I guess Airstream was testing different ideas when they built mine.

Brad, I think I found that generic light on the site you sent me for the trail light lens. When I get in front of a pc I will try to find the link.

Brad.

Found the lens "only".

Less than 5 bucks.

Brad,

Would this be what you are looking for? It appears to have a switch on the light assembly but I am sure you could still make it work. Can't beat $10!

Porch Light, Clear W/Switch 18104 [18104] - $9.95 : Out-of-Doors Mart!, More Airstream Parts on-line than anyone!

Matt, I did see those when I was looking for tail lights. Further googling and I found some of the same style that didn't have switches. All of them appear to be slightly smaller in size than the existing porch light.

I think I'll get a lens from Andy and see how it looks.

Thanks!

Brad

Brad,
I'm shocked at the amount of things done differently in the Argosy line. I understand they were a test bed for the later Airstreams but its funny how almost all are different from each other. Where's the "Special Edition" badges?

I wonder if the guys building them enjoyed changing things up a little? ... I know I don't like doing the same thing day after day.

Another thing I noticed is your door window. I haven't seen another Argosy with that.

My Argosy has a door window, but my door opens opposite of the way yours does! I do have a light over the door.

I could always take the LIMITED badge off our 310

There certainly are differences between Argosy years and even within the same year. See this thread, Argosy oddities

Certainly wouldn't surprise me. What really surprises me is the amount of subtle differences between the Argosies and the later Classic models. They may look the same on the outside but inside the walls, floors, etc there are a LOT of differences.

Here is a picture of the original door. The windows look pretty much the same as the later classics. I'm fairly certain the window is original to the coach when it was manufactured. The current door is from an 86 345.

I've often wondered why the doors on the trailers are facing the wrong direction. It seems to me if a trailer door accidentally jars open while traveling the wind can do a LOT of damage. With the motorhome doors they would just rattle a lot until you stopped to close it all the way.
