Any good radiator shop can either repair or build you a new one. Trouble is, it's becoming a lost art and radiator shops are disappearing.

Are there any part numbers on the core at all?

If Bkahler doesn't know, I'd post more pics of the core, inlet, outlet locations and sizes and we'll try to find it.

I tried to paste and copy the heater core page, but it may not take you there, so search Chevrolet P30 heater core.

https://www.autozone.com/cooling-hea.../chevrolet/p30

Cheers

Jami,

As mentioned previously look for a good (i.e. old) radiator shop in your area and take it to them. Re-coring is a distinct possibility. If you can't find something locally send me a couple of good detailed pictures showing front and back and I can show it to the local shop here to see what they have to say.

Try A & A Auto Radiator on Washington Street, East Weymouth; Bella's radiator went out for re-core to those guys. I can't confirm they did it but Airstream NE sent it there!

77 Argosy Heater Core

Whatever you do don’t let that old one get away from you. Those heater units are actually school bus or truck heaters and I believe the company that made them has merged or been bought out.

Some years ago my heater core in my 1977 20 developed leaks just like yours and the local radiator shop recored mine. Of course they need the end covers from the old one. Here in my local city all four radiator shops are now out of business. In larger cities where radiators are still repaired on trucks or heavy equipment there is usually a shop still around. Modern vehicles have aluminum radiators with plastic tanks and are not worth repairing. They are just replaced.

The small hole had a schrader (tire) valve screwed into it. Since the heater sits up higher than the radiator, the valve was there for air bleeding when changing out engine coolant. A cap is necessary since the valve can leak sometimes.

I am in for the night but tomorrow I can look up the manufacturer of those heater units for the 1977’s. I did look them up about 2 years ago but found no parts available.

Good Luck, Gregg

I also discovered this morning that if you search in Google for Hupp 940-H-12 heater parts a page will come up in Mill Supply (millsupply.com) for replacement parts including heater cores. Their page gives dimensions for their replacement heater cores (about $100). It looks from the pictures that the fitting locations may be somewhat different but workable. They also list a complete heater assembly for about $350 for a Hupp heater replacement.

Hi Jami

In general, any spares relating to the chassis (engine, brakes, suspension, steering) go to a regular auto-parts store, but the motorhome shares a lot of parts with the P-30 step vans and Mill Supply is the go to place for step van parts.

My typical search pattern is RockAuto get the part number and first price, if there is a part number, then run it through Goggle to see who has it. If there is no part number go to Mill Supply, get the part number and run it through Goggle to see who has it. Searching Goggle for part numbers tends to send you off in wrong directions, the only time I would start with a search engine is when I am trying to match a part from a picture only.

Martin- Yes, I have spent hours and hours looking at pictures of these cores, those pipes make me cross eyed!!

Some have dimensions, some do not.

I'll admit, I do like a good challenge, as I love research.....BUT

I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO!! I Need to move on!!:

Also when reading AGSY Manual, which refers to Chevy P30 chassis manual, which states, basically, the motorhome body distributer installs their own system. I even called AS.
me: "Can you tell me the model # you used in my.....
AS: "We do not know that information"

When looking at these cores on specific Truck, Buses and even Race Car sites, I don't understand why they can't put the dimensions, only model #.
So then I'm off looking up model #, which takes me off my path.. Again

For instance:
1. I google the dimensions. Seems the thickness is the hardest find.
2. I google by photos I took.. interesting finds

This is where the latest search took me on a Classic Winnebagos & Vintage RVs forum.
"I am posting this update because I had to do quite a bit of investigation because this heater is obsolete but it is also very well worth retaining due to the large heating/defrosting capacity (30-40,000 btu) and the ease of servicing this unit compared to systems buried deep within the dash.* This is also completely covered by an interior panel so you hardly know it is there.*

The Hupp Mobile Products Div was purchased by Marathon Mobile Div. which no longer produces or supports the larger heaters of this type.* After searching long hours I found that the heater core is an industry type 5050 which was sold under several part numbers and manufacturers.* *It appears the only remaining part available* is Acme Air Mfg. Part # 4560028.*
There are a couple of suppliers who still offer this Acme part and also sell it on Ebay.* The best price I found is $185.* *The needed heater control valve for the push-pull control is a standard Mopar Part.* I am posting photos of the open heater box and the replacement core.* The only issue with the new core is that the inlet and outlet tubes will need to be bent at 90deg. or shortened and coupled with elbows.* *I also learned that there is a long established radiator specialty shop near by who I will visit tomorrow for an estimate on a recore of the existing coil unit.* Either way,* I now have an end in site to one problem on my list."

I'll let you all know what we do, I'm done being researcher!!
.....for now!

Thanks for listening!!
