Air dam for 77 Argosy 28

Has anyone installed an air dam on their Argosy or classic Airstream motorhome? I'm thinking of installing one to help protect the vulnerable transmission filter and other components in harm's way under the rig. From what I've read, an air dam can help with cooling and possibly MPG - although would not expect that to be significant.

Does anyone have ideas about how to do this? I would like it to be flexible so it would not break over speed bumps and dips. I've read someone used rubber lawn border material, another used conveyor belt material; I'm looking for ideas. Thanks as always!

I think I've seen one or two pictures where someone built some sort of air dam below the front bumper. If I was go go about making one I'd probably start with 1/8" aluminum diamond plate.

To me the big question would be can it be built close enough to the road surface to do any good without getting beat up due to being so low.

Keep us posted if/when you decide to make something.

Jeez Louis! How low of an air dam are you thinking? Or have you slammed your suspension? Sorry, I was just trying to imagine a P30 chassis getting high centered on a speed bump; maybe you have speed HUMPS in your area!

As for material.....Home Depot sells rubber matting that I used for my shroud material, that was quite soft and flexible, yet strong enough to maintain its shape. You might want to put a metal strip around the top of it to act as a backer strip though.

Cheers
