78 Argosy windshield seal

My '78 Argosy 28 has started leaking at the top of the split between the two glass windshields. Anybody know where I can get a replacement seal?

Here's one source for the gasket.

windshield gasket

The odds are you can seal the existing windshield gasket with the proper sealant. I don't have the information in front of me but there are several products out there that will do the job.

Thanks for the response, Brad. I have been looking for a seal with no luck, so I think reseal in it is the way to go.

The Argosy shares the same windscreens with the Classic. Take a look at davejay's posts on the classic forum where he has recently sourced new gaskets and screens.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f311...ll-181776.html

He reports a new type locking bead which is more secure than the original so a worthy upgrade.

Hey,
I was looking at your post for windsheild gaskets.
Question. Is the rubber supple? Are the corners in tact, as in not ripped?
Is so, you may get by with buying a new locking strip. It looks like a T. As opposed to the laying on its back D. The leg of the T goes down into the gasket deeper, thus pushing the gasket tighter against the glass.
RV solutions is where I got it from. 20.00 bucks.
On my 325 up above the gasket on the body of the coach, the sealer they used at the factory, was hard and breaking away. Someone put silicone sealer in there. Before you go to the expense of doing new gaskets and quite possibly both glasses, take a good hard look at that top edge. I love vulcum seal. It's polyurethane, it stays soft, comes in multiple colors and lasts forever.
Old glass get brittle. Not so much the glass, but the plastic lamentation inside the two pieces . And if you got any dings, chips, etc etc it will crack. Putting in old glass is really touch to do. And our windows are curved. It's a bad start boys. (Silverado movie).
Look into the new style locking strip, my 325 had original glass and gaskets. When I put in the new locking strip, it pushed the rubber gasket right down against the glass, even on the lower out side corners, where the big gasket kind of pulled back a little. I still went around the inside edge with vulcum to make sure. But it didn't need it. Check out my description of windsheild installs on the classic site. DJ

Thanks davejay. I will look into that. I think I am going to also use urethane to reseal it.

Also trying get info on the sliding glass on the sides of my Argosy, which has a metal strip riveted down the center of the each window. Anybody out there see another Argosy with these strips? And getting the fixed half of the window out when replacing the glass channel.

It just dawned on me that you might be looking at the slider windows from the outside. If that's the case, then you'll need to switch to the inside of the coach. All seal/track replacement work is done from inside the coach.

On the Argosy windows during seal/track replacement the fixed pane is not removed.

Does that help clear things up for you?

Yes, the metal strips are outside on the windows. If you don't take the fixed window out, then how do you replace it's seal? Also, is the glass channel I'm replacing narrow enough that it will fit in between the fixed glass and inside frame?
Thanks Brad. Appreciate your help.

To be honest, I don't know of anyone who has removed the fixed window. Matter of fact I don't even know where to find the gray seal that the window sets in. If you come up with any information on what to do I'd sure like to hear about it!

When I had problems with my window, my glass guy carefully cut out as much gasket as possible and inserted rubber spacers to center the glass and then filled the frame with polyurethane. That was several years ago and it's still holding up. There is a thread around here somewhere. That center aluminum strip was broken loose and pushing out.

A little more info on the side slider windows. I had a brief discussion with John Warden about the fixed window and he pointed out that the center bar which holds the fixed window in place can't be removed without removing the entire window assembly from the frame.

Were you asking about gray trim seal? If so, I saw Airstream Supply sells it by the foot. I was looking for replacement glass channel but I don't think what they show is what I need.

No. I was referring to the window seal that is used around the fixed pane. I've not seen any seal listed for sale nor have any read about anyone here on Airforums replacing it.

From my research it would seem no one ever touches the fixed pane. Probably because the entire window assembly has to be removed to even get access.

Brad,
Peanut is a '77 motorhome, I thought, so where did you get your glass channel from when you replaced it?

I bought the fuzzy schlegel from Out of Doors Mart. It's the only stuff we found that works on the Argosy windows.
