1978 Argosy!

Called about a 1978 Argosy motorhome the other day, The guy I talked to says it is a 26 foot motorhome. But what I can find out it would have to be either 24 or a 28 foot motorhome to be a 1978???
Second the outside is good, he tells me. But the inside needs completely redone, he can't tell me if any thing works the propane is unhooked. The holding tanks are eitherbroke or gone. The plumbing would have to be replaced. What I am looking for is a idea of what it is worth to make a offer. Any ideas out there. Also it mayormaynot have gen-set couldn't get a stright answer on that. I know the in side can be done but i got to see what it can be bought for. All thoughts and ideas on this subject really appreciated.

Sounds like a complete rebuild, which means that as is it is not worth much. I really think that the 24' ones are neat however. Almost as easy to park as my Lincoln.

Slow,

This thread tells what we paid for our 1954 Double Door Liner: http://www.airforums.com/forum...ost163666.html and the pictures show the condition.

This thread shows Uwe's Overlander restoration and I think that somewhere in there he talks about the initial cost: http://www.airforums.com/forum...ler-11687.html

If it was a trailer, not over $1,000 or $2,000. Maybe one of the motorhome members can address the value of this Argosy.

If you pay some one to restore or rehab, you will not get your money back. If you do it yourself and don't count your labor, you will.

What Would (YOU ) Appraise It at???

All you Argosy People I need a idea of a price by tomorrow afternoon. I look at it as a 1978 cube van, 454 engine ,turbo400 transmission and not much inside. Needs alot of work and parts inside, new tires ,brakes and paint outside. And who know what else. It is being sold as a fixer upper, it is almost 30 years old and the one thing a person has to remember if you Rv or not is that gas is $2.50-$3.00 today and that limits the Rv market a bunch.
You Argosy people please give me your idea how you would value this motorhome if you where going to buy it.
Thanks For your Thoughts

Here is some value information which RJ Dial has put together for trailers of various ages and lengths: http://www.vintageairstream.com/rr_t...condition.html

Good Luck

It really depends on the condition, have to see pics at leats.

but...

Figure that you will need to spend a minimum of $2500 to get into running shape, Rebuild/replace the carb, new alternator, belts , fluids, tires, shocks, springs, airbags and such. Interior is a matter of cleaning things up to start. New tanks will be a big undertaking, a lot of disassembly. If it in that rough of shape, $1500 may be a high offer. (if your handy and have time to tinker)

Post pics if you can at some point!

Question Got to look her over

Finally got to look her over , turns out it is a 28footer ,not a 24. the out side has just a couple small dings now as the paint it falls short . will need tires , pinion seal is leaking, wind shield showing a little delame, white aroud the edges, Ais bags "(LOOK)" good, but the almighty exhust leak too. Has a newer gen set ,but the instillation a little rough.
Now the inside driver area looks good ,every thing but dash air seems to work. But when you go back from there somebody has tried to change the rear bath to a side bath and a rear bed . Workmanship fall pretty short The other thing is a problem with the gas line and the dealer is not sure about fridge ,water heater and furnace . And they are not sure about the miles either.
Guys think it over what would you give for it. I said I would get back to them. One good thing it is only about 45 miles from home.
PS: The bathroom is been done poorly with no shower , forgot to tell you that.
