Hi, I just read your post that you sold your Argosy.

I'm in the market to buy one; would you have tips & ideas where to look for a good 20ft motorhome? I love the small design But looks like they're hard to come by.

After having had one, would you recommend this to be a good motorhome? Context: I have also a 30ft Airstream motorhome, looking to complement it with an 'easy' to park one

Thanks so much,

Sacha

My first was a 1977 20' Argosy, it was very easy to maneuver. Then we had a little one and with a single bunk a 20 footer is tight for 2 people, add a baby and it is too small.

So we bought a 24' of the same year with the bedroom in the rear. It was still good at maneuvering but it was a bit heavier and its MPG was worse.
That one worked out well for a while until our little guy was not so little any more.

My latest & last is the 84 Airstream 27 footer. It has 2 good size fold out beds and a dinette that converts to a bed. Again, maneuverability is good, weight is more so MPG's are lower. It is also more prone to acting like a sail boat in gusty winds.

27' is as big as I can go because it is a tight fit in my back yard and with the weight & length it is a worry to take it off road to some of the events that I go to are in the woods and fields.

If you fit in a 20 footer, find a good one, keep it up and enjoy

I found this one in North West Georgia, near Chattanooga TN. My wife and I have been eying it for years. It always had a "no trespassing" sign in the window. One day it changed to for sale, a week later it's at my house. It's been sitting a while, file pump, water pump, brake master cycle set, a section of brake line replaced. Looks like a total front brake replacement is in order to include calipers. Fun stuff!

Thanks, it has a lot of "sitting outside with zero maintenance" issues. Seems every thing I touch is in need of repair or replace. I think it's bones are fine (engine and drivetrain) so we have hope. Thanks for the reply!

The folks on this forum will always be here with wisdom to help you along the way. Just ask. I could not have done it without the help of the fine folks on this forum.

Is this the correct location to ask mechanical questions? I am currently replacing the brake calipers and hoses. Local part stores are not much help. Any leads on front brake hoses for an 1976 Argosy 20ft would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Ditto, go to Rockauto for the brake parts. I would list the part numbers for my 74 but I'm not 100% sure there weren't changes made between 74 & 76. When searching for brake parts the main thing to remember is you have JB8 (front disc & rear drum with hydroboost) brakes and your chassis weight may or may not be less than 11,000 pounds. I've found that sometimes I have to buy parts for the higher rated chassis and other times just the opposite.

Rockauto provides pictures of the parts so it's always a good idea to compare what you have with the pictures.

Yep, you can ask them in this thread or the Mechanics Corner. Asking them in this thread keeps all of your info in one place which for me has been very handy. Since my rebuild has gone for so many years having everything in one thread has helped me remember when and how I did something!
