Yes. He thought he could replace the one windshield with the crack until he found out it cost $2000

They are really nice motorhomes Steve, don't be put off. Just look for a good one. Not sure if Peter (http://www.airforums.com/forums/memb...reamer-13.html) sold his newer/longer classic, but if you have the funds, and want to go travelling straight away, one like that is what you need.

Thanks Martin. We'll keep looking. The Argosy travel trailers seem to be a lot less than the Airstream trailers of the same age. Are they not made as well or is it more of an image?

Best is to regard the Argosy range as a 'prototype', ie a way for Airstream to test the market without putting their reputation at risk. The fact that they are painted also means the sheet aluminum used can be 'flawed' (have imperfections which would show if left bare), but in the case of the motorhomes, they literally stopped painting them and changed to Airstream badges otherwise they are the same.

The trailers are a little different, and many novel features are tried out first on the Argosy....some work and so appear later in the Airstream range, others don't and are never seen again. Interestingly sometimes things that didn't work at the time become really desirable later.

Just like the Airstream trailers the shorter ones are single axle and if you hunt around you can even find a narrow body derivative called a Minute (comes in three lengths), that maybe ideal to pull behind your MDX.

1975 Argosy 24 update by MaxD

Hello Everyone,

I'm Don Varian, owner of the Argosy 24 that SteveNdebbie were looking at.

I would like to update some information about this motorhome. All pictures have date/time stamp so we know exactly when they were taken. I will be posting updates as they are available.

I plan to have this vehicle roadworthy by July 1st.

I welcome all comments and inquiries.

Hi Don,

It would appear the Argosy has cleaned up rather nicely inside and out, good job. Can I assume that you now have it running and driving?

What brand generator is installed?

You have certainly put in a lot of effort to clean it up Don.

If it isn't been used for a while I would love to see what you are doing to make it drive-able?

Hi Don!

The Argosy looks great! Glad to see you joined the forum. Debbie and I are looking at travel trailers now. We are a little bit directionless right now but in no hurry. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Ovilers. We actually drove by within a half hour of the company in Tennessee when we went on vacation. Apparently they made travel trailers for a couple years and then quit making them but now have started back up in the past year or two. They are small but what well-made and probably expensive.

1975 Argosy 24 update by MaxD

Hi Brad,

The generator in this vehicle is a Generac M#6206-06, S#0387920, 115/230 volt, rated 5000 watt surge/400watt continuous. I ran it for about 20 minutes a week or so ago but is stopped like it ran out of gas. Since I don't need it this minute that project is on back burner for now. I plan on getting it running again after I get the engine running.

I got the engine to run on starting fluid last week for a short time. I drove it to where is was parked as an In-law guest house in 2004? . I started and ran it occasionally for several years but haven't started it since they stopped spending visits in it, 2014 ? As I stated in my first post, I plan to have it roadworthy by July 1st. There is some work to do yet. Imagine that.

Tomorrow I drain the fuel tank and put in fresh gas! I'll keep you "posted".

If the generator is fueled like mine, the supply tube for the generator is shorter than the one for the engine. That was to keep you from using all your gas in the generator.
You may have a mistype that is probably 4000 watts continuous

Since the Argosy is a 75 it will likely have the same tank and configuration as my 74. My 74 did indeed have a generator siphon tube that was shorter than the main suction feed for the engine.

You have the same Generac generator that was installed in mine. Hopefully your generator can be made to work because if it's mounted like my Generac was mounted the only way to remove it for service is to cut the mounting brackets and drop it out the bottom. With any luck Airstream had learned by the 75 model year that it would be far better to bolt the generator in place instead of welding it in place!

I need to update my comment on the gas tank size. It appears the floor plan of Don's Argosy is the same is this 75 Argosy that I found in the Mountains in Kentucky. If Don's 75 has the same floor plan then it probably has the same size gas tank which looks to be in the 50 gallon range.

The gas tank in my Argosy is indeed a 50 Gallon size. It is empty now (because I pumped it out) but I remember filling it when I first got it and it took nearly 50 gal.
I think it lists it in my owners manual as a 50 (or 48) gal. Also the stock interior on your "find" looks familiar. The generator IS welded in. Since it only has 160 hr on it, I might keep it if I end up "scrapping" the vehicle.

Don, what are the factors that would lead you to scrapping the Argosy?
