1975 Argosy 24' and 6.7M Minuet project

Okay all, the final piece of the puzzle has finally been brought home.....Gale, meet Snowflake; Snowflake meet Gale.

I travelled 4000 kms, twice, to finally get Snowflake home; leaving for South Dakota Wednesday at noon; arrived 1:30pm local time Thursday afternoon; sourced new tires for the new rims; bought some supplies and installed the new axle by 10:00 pm that evening, (it took a bit of time to get into the shop as the seller was working out of town). Left Friday morning as soon as I bought new safety chain hooks, and a new coupler pin, as a winter/spring snowstorm was coming in fast; with 3-6" predicted for Madison Wisconsin, roughly 800 miles to the south of Aberdeen South Dakota. I drove with just gas stops until 4:45 am, arriving Port Huron/Sarnia; stopped at a Walmart to get some sleep until 6am, then across the border and home by 9:30am. It's never easy getting these projects home.

The old axle was so badly worn out, that even though I had jacked up the trailer until the wheels were 4" off the ground, I had to jack the trailer up another 1.5" to install the slightly smaller wheels, 225/75R15, versus 235/75R15. There was no suspension left, whatsoever; new shocks, Centramatics, cone caps, (which I left off to access lugnuts to re-tighten along the trip down).

More pics to follow.

Cheers

What a nice recovery adventure. You have a nicely matched pair. Glad that you made it home safely.

Dang! Those two look awesome together!

I'm assuming you did not use the Argosy MH to pick up the Minuet

Yeah, no! The wife's 2012 Honda Pilot had to do the heavy lifting on both trips.

Interesting note though; the Pilots receiver must be at least 3" higher than the Argosy's, as the trailer is incredibly level behind Gale, but slanted up behind the Pilot. I was really pleased to see that the trailer was sitting pretty well right where I wanted her to be. If anything, she be a bit nose down after I add the spare tire to the rack under the trailer and load her up.

The neighbour came over to peruse the goods and was shocked at her condition for being 41 years old. The frame, other than a little surface rust seems to be in mint condition. The original awning is in incredible shape and other than a couple of window opener handle ends, all the bits and pieces are there. No water marks, no moldy smell, no animal smell, no subfloor rot that we could spot; he swore that someone had it in a barn/garage somewhere for most of its life.

We shall get a better look once the weather gets a tad better. I am looking forward to drawing up plans....

I'll have to take a tape measure and measure them both the next time I pull them out.

Thanks all for your kinds words.

Cheers

Tony,

If the Minuet has been stored inside for a number of years you might want to seal all of the exterior seams with Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure before to long.

Looking forward to more pictures........
