Window gap what’s going on??

So our windows all have this gap so put new weatherstripping on hoping that was problem ...ya nope?? What do we try next ? This is then in locked tight position. We have tried the actual remake weather stripping and also just one we bought at store neither closes the space.

Is the window in the pop hinge correctly, and if it is, has it been bent or pryed outward. A picture of the outside of the window would help. Did you get the proper weatherstrip from an Airstream supplier? there are 2 types, and I have used the "D" bulb type as I find that it seals better. Outof doors mart # is 38-0064. Have used it on many windows on various Airstreams that I have fixed and owned. Chris

Yes, a picture of the hinge might help solve the mystery. The looks like a much larger gap than I would expect to see. Maybe some PO damaged or replaced all the hinges to cause this...

Thinking it is pop hinge will grab more photos when I get chance/ we used the weatherstrip from Airstream supply and then tried another both windows still have this gap...if pop hinge was brutal to get back in so yes maybe that is it? How do we correct pop hinge issues? I will look at previous posts about this but any advice greatly appreciated

Ok I am also now thinking hinge issues / any advice on how to fix pop hinge issues? I will research topic but any info you have and want share greatly appreciated/ it’s def more than a “weather seal” issue for sure

Ok I just looked at great old thread I think they used to use buck rivets so when we w replacing the old pop hinge onto window we used pop rivets ..old thread I read said that fine but make sure to put pop rivets thru from back side which we did not I did from frontside looking at old buck rivets on other windows ...we did flatten the back of rivets before placing the weather strip but perhaps it’s just to much of a bump? Going take off the pop hinge / make sure it’s super straight re-revit the opposite way than I thought -try in window hope it looks better then weatherstrip again!!!! Starting over ....oh vintage AS love it’s not for impatient .

When I replaced the hinge on the windows I used pop rivets, but carefully hammered then flat and filed them down. I did rivet from the front, making sure that the hinge is on the correct way. Did you do all windows? If not, look at the windows that you didn't do and make sure that you are replacing hinge the same way.

If you can post a picture of the outside of your hinge, it may become instantly apparent what the problem is.

Yup, your problem is how the hinge is attached to the window frame. Can you buck rivet, or know someone who can?

Another picture of the window removed with a view of the area under the seal would be helpful too.

The back of the rivets are holding the window away from the frame. They must be filed or ground flatter. A "bucked" rivet is the preffered way, but pop style can be used if careful.

I personally don’t know how to buck rivet but will find someone who can, these two windows apparently are my trial error windows ..thank you for helping me

Looks like the top edge of the window frame where the hinge attaches is bent also. You’ll need to straighten that out.
