Starting Repairs

I am in the process of repaining my 71 Overlander. Luckly the floor repairs seem minor. I have attached a photo of the floor in the rear of the TT. An area (2 foot wide and 1 foot deep) right in front of the rear access has rotted where a leak fron the rear sink drain was left unrepaired. My question - should I go ahead and replace all of the rear floor from the bathroom doorway to the rear or just that small section.

Next I have to remove the 2 front side windows (the PO installed them with no gaskets). I think I have to remove the front interior cap but I am unsure how to do this.

I also need the rear lights (photo attached)

I also have some interior separation - what could cause this? (photos atached)

Another Question - where can I find a bath/shower for my TT? The one I have has a big hole knocked in it.

If you are talking about the upper cabinets separating as shown in the last picture it is probaaly caused by a rough ride due to bad axles. I would suggest that you sart on the running gear repairs first, axles, tires, wheels, brakes and lights first. Once these items are in good working order then proceed with the other repairs.

If you haven't already done so, I would take all the carpet out anywhere near where the leak was to make certain that you have found all the rot...

In other words, be sure you look at the bare wood subfloor in all of the bathroom, and keep going if you see any signs of staining or rot.

That interior separation could also be caused by rear end separation.

If you're talking about the wing windows on either side of the front window, you can remove the interior closeouts by drilling out the rivets that hold them in place and removing them by themselves. You really don't even have to do that, unless they are damaged. You can drill out the rivets that hold the wing windows in place from the outside, and pull them out to reseal them. The windows come out with the frame.
If the windows themselves are missing the gaskets, it will be a bit of a chore to seal them, involving dismantling the frames, adding gaketing, and reassembling.

I am going to replace the axles, wheels and tires but I want to fix the inside first. I am in the process of removing the carpet and replace it with cork flooring. So far, I see no rear sag or separation. I have found a little staining on the floor up front but the floor seems solid. I think I am going to replace the rear section of the floor from the bathroom doors to the rear of the trailer. I will see how that goes.

The hole can easily be repaired, and then the tub can be refinished. New parts don't exist.

The wing windows can easily be sealed from the outside, with Vulkem sealer.

No need to take anything apart or to drill out any rivets.

First remove the lens covers. If your canisters aren't too badly rusted you can simply clean them up and repaint them. Otherwise, you can buy new LED lights. I went the half-way route. I cleanup up the brake/turn signal lights in order to retain the Fiber Optic display feature, and replaced the white backup lights with LEDs (see my blog for details and pics).

Did you ever find out how to remove your toilet -- we have the same year/trim level and I'm going to need to do the same thing for our floor update?

No no one ever told me how to remove the toilet but I did figure it out myself - you will need a wrench - I think it was 9/16 but the nuts are easy to get to. At the bottom of the toilet is openings for you to get to the nuts. Then you just remove. The water was not hooked up to my toilet - just the sprayer - so I cannot tell you about the water plumbing. But that should be easy also. Good Luck
