Mystery Water Drips

Last time we had the 73 Overlander out we noticed water dripping from a screw hole in the bottom of the pan, just behind the wheels. Quite a lot of water, a steady drip.

It would dry up during the day and overnight, but as soon as we would shower in the morning it would start dripping again.

The shower was the key, no shower = no leak.

Today we removed some panels to expose all of the shower plumbing, and ran the shower for at least an hour. No leak visible anywhere, nor were there any signs that the shower had ever leaked.

Now, needless to say we are stumped. We can see zero evidence of any leaks anywhere around the bathroom, but we do know that when we were showering on our last trip we had water running out on the ground.

We hope that someone might have an idea as to what this could be.

The only thing we can think of is that perhaps it is condensation. On the last trip there were three of us, and we have a great hot water heater so were all taking fairly long showers. Is it even remotely possible that the moisture from the shower made it to the outer aluminum skin, condensed there, and then ran out into the pan?

We do use the bathroom fan while showering but it is close to the floor in the cabinet wall, so doesn’t seem to be all that effective.

Condensation would be my guess, if there are no other signs of a leak...

Were you using shore water? If you were using the water pump does it cicyle on occassionally when the plumbing isn't in use. If so then for sure there is a leak in the fresh water tubing. If the shore water is under pressure and no leaks occur when the plumbing isn't in use then your leak is in the sewer system. I doubt that you are creating that much condensation.

By your description it seems like too large a leak for it to be condensation. Or you'd have to have your AC on at 55 degrees and it's 100 outside.

- Did you check the drain piping?

- It could be traveling across the belly pan from another location.

If the water you were hooked up to was coming from a deep well in a campground very cold , it could be possible that the water pipe from your hose connection to the hot water heater was condensing the moisture from the air. I had a 73 once with hose connection on road side on frame between the bumper and the trailer body. It was plumbed with 1/2" copper tubing and fed the water heater in the rear bath. There is a check valve and soldered-in pressure regulator valve in there. The condensation could be running along the copper tubing to the check valve then down throught a hole in the floor. That way it is possible to never make contact with the floor, only the belly pan. I would hook up a hose and pressurize the trailer. then shut off the supply to the trailer. Leave your pump off and leave it for a day and see if you still get the leak. Charlie

We once had a drip from the belly pan when we were hooked up to city water...it was dripping out the help-light fixture near the sewer hookups...upon further investigation we discovered that the inlet fixture for the city water needed to be tightened from the inside...it was dripping ever-so-slightly uner the city pressure, running down the inside of the wall and then dripping out the bottom...it was hard to reach but it just took a bit of tightening to stop the leak...
