Awning- questions

Hello all

Mine doesn't have an awning, what is the appropriate length for the overlander?
I located the apparatus via craigslist, just need to replace the fabric, for $400 does this seem like a good deal? Any idea what Zip Dee will charge?

Thanks in advance

Kiah,

The awing on my Ambassador runs from end cap joint to end cap joint. I think on your trailer that would be approximately 16'.

$400 for the frame without the fabric seems a little hight to me unless it is really good condition. Call Andy at Inland RV, they sell Zip Dees at a discount and can advise you as far as how to determine exact length and what is the best way to go, new or used.

My awning material measures 16" 2" and is called a 17" awning. Mine is a Colorado but that shouldn't make a difference. A new zipp Dee is about $1300 so if you spend another $300 on fabric it is better than buying new!

Hi Gang,

A Zip-Dee for a 27' Airstream measures 16'-11 1/2" according to Zip-Dee (YES! I'm also a dealer/installer and discount them to Forum members at 15% off MSRP)

Buying a used hardware package is a real crap shoot in that you don't know that the arms are the proper bend for your year trailer, you don't know that the roller tube is straight, and most important, you don't know the condition of the roller spring, one of the mst important components of the system.

Plus, it is not a very easy task to rivet the new fabric onto the roller. Other awning companies like Carefree and A & E use an extrusion in the roller tube that allows you to somply slide the new fabric onto the roller, but it has to be riveted on a Zip-Dee.

For the few dollars in savings, you are looking at a lot of unknowns and grief, IMHO.

Let me know if I can be of further help.
