Just bought a '69 Sovereign for parts ... what are we thinking

So on my neat little smart phone I have a Craig's list app that alerts when an Airstream is posted all over the US. It's great kinda...

We found one for $1,500 close by with rear & roof tornado damage (same model as ours). We're thinking of selling the parts we don't need, & using some of the exterior skins for the interior walls of the bathroom (ripping out the fiber glass) & kitchen back splash. ideas?? Will this work? What kind of rivets do we need (this will be our first rivet part of the project)?

What then will we do with what's left? The scrap yard seems so heartless.

Feel free to inquire about parts you may need as well.

Sent you a PM, if you do part it out, I need some windows for ours. Also if you dump the bathroom, I need that funky door just above the tub that has the soap dish mounted in it and the sliding doors for the cabinet above that.

Thanks!

I'll have to see about that door. Our current A/s doesn't have those doors anymore & the damaged one has a lot of damage to that area of the bathroom. Stay tuned........

Did the 69 have the "Airstream Central Control" panel? Also, I need one of the square 3-way light fixtures if it has them. I can email you pics of the parts I'm looking for, just PM me.

Take care,

Bruce

Great idea-

Fixit,
Sent a PM on a side window, 18x22high for our 1970 Safari, thanks for looking.
As to the rivets for interior, 1/8" aluminum pop rivets are standard. Outer skin inside? Should work, interesting reutilization of material!
Your general plan is at least "saving" yours, and many other Airstreams using the parts of the one you just bought. Offering parts is part of keeping these rigs on the road and camping. I pushed alot of parts out of our 70Safari to good homes. No regrets.
Enjoy your project!

The reutilization of the skins inside may prove to be difficult, since it looks like they're kinda thick. Should be a really peaceful project for husband & wife who have never done anything like this before.... huh?

I am doing an Avalair and if yours has a top door on the upper cabinet above the flush, I'd be real intersted. If you do, contact me directly and I'll send a pic, can't figure out how to do it here.
Thanks

Geez, the damage is so localized, it almost looks like you could take out that whole section and turn it from a 31' to a 27' trailer. Talk about a project!

Bite your tongue! It's already being discussed... Our skills aren't really up to that right now, but it's not off the table. We have a dirt bike trailer we could then get rid of.

I'd be interested in one of the street side windows and possibly the rock guard.

Most of the windows are actually broken, but the frames are intact. The rock guard isn't in perfect shape. It does have a few dings. I'll try to get a better picture & window count soon. It's at a storage place a few miles away right now. Don't want to anger the neighbors with 2 Airstreams in the driveway.

We are searching for Windows 1963 Sovereign, any ideas? Did you sell the chipped rock guard? If not, can you please call me 678-588-1793.
