the first is 40 lumens and is cool white and the other is 25 lumens and is warm white.

I'll keep you posted on the visual satisfaction level and perceived brightness vs. the stock bulbs. The only drawback is the cost $25 each.....ouch .
Lew, from my own experimentation, I have found the warm white LED's seem to match the Classic and Safari models, and the cool white seems better suited to the CCDs and the new Safari SE's.

LewsterThe Luxeon LED’s are the way to go if you want brightness. The one watt dose a great job and the five watt are just plain awesome. They will blind you if you look right into them. Problem with the Luxeon LED is heat dissipation; the mount must be a good heat sink and look good also. They will last 100,000 hours and draw little current for the light you get, but the price per led and the driver module is still high. I have a six Luxeon ring with driver that draws 700 millie watts and a single one-watt and one five watt LED. I think they will replace the halogen altogether in the future just because of their small size and current draw. But it will take some time for the price to drop while different applications for them are created. Remember to never touch a halogen bulb with your fingers. Use a clean dry cloth or tissue to remove or install them. The oil on your fingers shortens the life of the bulb because of the ability of the halogen gas to redeposit the filament back onto it’s self (the filament) than on the glass envelope which makes them last longer.

Slightly OT.

Would wearing vinyl or latex gloves work ok when replacing halogen bulbs?

You are working in such a small area that using a rag doesn't seem practical.

Thanks,

Dennis
