White Roof on the 22' Sport

I noticed that the 22' sport has a white roof. Is this roof a TPO membrane? Is this a cost saving measure to keep the Sport prices lower than the flying cloud series? The photos and specs of the sport conveniently ignore this detail. Any insight is appreciated.
thanks,
Leo

The roof is painted white on all newer Airstreams. Airstream claims that it lowers the inside temp by 10 degrees in hot weather. Not sure I buy it but that's what they claim.

It is not a claim but physics. Most white paints run color because they radiate heat well where aluminum does not. It works on the space station and it will work on your ground based version of it. Airstreams conduct heat like mad since they have aluminum skin inside and out and aluminum ribs under that. This bypasses the insulation to some degree.

Airstream uses the same factory supplied white coated aluminum on the 22 Sport as they do on all the rest of the line. I just finished a solar installation on a new 22 Sport and it was exactly like every other newer Airstream I have worked on..........No TPO or EPDM!. It's all aluminum!

Thanks for the quick answers. I wasn't aware that all of the new Airstreams have a white aluminum roof.

I was wondering what are the solar options for a 22 Sport? Thanks

My 1998 owners manual refers to the white painted roof as "architectural grade"... always thought that was an odd choice of words.

We've got some threads somewhere where one of the members tested the theory with sheets of unpainted and painted aluminum a few years ago. It was very evident that the temperatures below the white paint coated sheet of aluminum were lower than the unpainted. I'll see if I can find them.

Most of the school busses in my locale while painted their traditional yellow color, all sport white roofs in order to reduce interior temperatures.
