The teak mats for Airstream now are sold through the Airstream Supply link.

Do your teak mats have rubber feet etc? Or is the teak resting directly in the fiberglass?

s1000pre, I’m not sure if the ones from Airstream Supply come with rubber feet but if not you can add some 3M strips to the bottom.

I made my own teak shower mat for our 27’ Globetrotter last summer and did that. The teak mat is so comfortable to stand on.

I just made mine today. The constant vibrations and shaking when towing is my concern.

Nice job! I like the corner shelf too. Just put some of that 3M non-skid rubber on the bottom and you’ll be fine.

I take our mat out of the shower and stow it in the wardrobe vertically when on the road. We put plastic containers with our Berkey and spare water pouches in the shower while traveling and haven’t noticed any damage to the shower floor so far.

Very nice! I'm planning on making one as well for our new GT 27 FBQ. If I can ask, how thick did you make the slats and the support bars? Did you use teak oil as a finish?

Thanks dog_and_cat! I started with a single 4/4 teak board and cut the with of the slats (reverse engineered the size by counting the number off a photo) and then carefully split the slats down the middle. I re-ran the outside ones through the saw to ensure they were the same thickness. See the photo with dimensions below.

I think I made the support bars 1/2” or 5/8” thick, will have to check next time I’m in the trailer. You can use any good Teak oil; I found Minwax’s version at the local Ace and used that along with stainless steel screws and Gorilla glue. I made 1/8” spacers to keep the gap even before gluing/screwing together. Practice with scraps to get the countersink depth so the screw don’t penetrate the top of the slats.

Overall, fun project and definitely worth the effort.

Thanks for the details! Super helpful. We take delivery of our GT two weeks from today so I'll have a few other things to keep me busy at first but this is definitely on my list of DIY items.

I went with larger planks 11/16 x 2 1/8. My supports are 1/2 x 5/8 wide. .3" spacers, brass screws. $100 worth of 4/4 teak gave me enough wood to construct both the bench and floor.

I purchased it at a local "Woodcraft" store. Look for a specialty woodworking supply store.

Our local Woodcraft store closed years ago.... I wish we had something similar around here. My local choices are pretty much Lowes or Home Depot, which isn't where you want to go to source teak.... sigh....

primepower, I’m lucky to live close to a local hardwood store called Bull Valley Hardwood. (hot link) I think I paid $70 for the board and still have almost a third left over.

The store owner is a software developer and could never find hardwood so he started this as a side business. It’s grown into a big deal with wood working classes, a showroom with tools and finishing products. They do custom milling too. I’m not sure if they ship or not.

A few years ago I made a curly cherry table top for our previous trailer, a FC23FB. Sold the trailer but kept the top and put the original back in. The DW said she’d like a walnut table top in our Globetrotter. We’ll see...

Thank you. I see really good prices on Amazon for built teak mats. I may buy one and cut to fit.
