Socket for Lug Nuts

Do I need a special socket for my Sport 16's lug nuts? They are 13/16"'s. Thanks!

Depending on the rims you may need a thin wall socket if the nuts are recessed in the rim.
I also use a short extension (3") and a breaker bar.

Might also need to be a "deep" socket. Ditto to using a 6" extension from the socket to a breaker bar [or torque wrench, if you are at that stage].

Also, a six-point socket is better than a twelve-point, which is more prone to not fit correctly, and can "strip" the lug nut/bolt, especially the chrome-covered ones [see below].

When you confirm the correct socket size, you might as well get a spare, especially if you have to use a "thin wall" version. BTW do you have the lug nuts/bolts which have the chrome covers over the "real" item? They fail at the worst times, so we replaced the "fake" lug nuts/bolts with solid SS ones.

PS -- 1/2" drive for all socket stuff, not 3/8."

13/16" is also a common size for sparkplug sockets. They are deep sockets, 6-point, and usually thin too. Easily available online or at any auto parts store.

They usually have something to keep the sparkplugs from falling out, most often a piece of stiff foam tube that may or may not get in the way when used for lug nuts, but they slip out easily.

For use on lug nuts, I would recommend ½" drive rather than ⅜", both sizes are commonly available.

Wow, thank you Peter. Had no idea about the "fake" bolts. I just keep learning, in drip and drabs!
