Small leak, just out of warranty

We took our 2013 22' Sport to Portland,OR for 3 weeks this spring to say the least there was a bit of rain. After we discovered a small leak coming in through one of the side seams, we changed the level a bit to make sure water ran to the opposite side and made an appt with the dealer.

To say the least I was a bit concerned about how many hours it might take to find the leak since I was out of warranty by about month. Since this was the first time we had been out in this much rain, I asked Aistream to take care of the problem under warranty. The response I got back was as long as it was a warrant-able item they wound take care of it. Since it was at the dealer I had them replace a misbehaving lock and a couple of rivets.

I just heard back from the dealer, they found the leak, repaired/replaced the lock and rivets.....all under warranty.

To say the least, I went from being concerned about what this might cost me and questioning purchasing an airstream, to being a very happy camper.

-Dwight

Thanks for sharing the positive experience you had with AS and your dealer. It's nice to know that things work out well from time to time!

Just curious about what caused the leak. Cracked or worn out sealant under a seam or traveling from up top?

I will have the final explanation Friday, but it sounded like missing sealant, I assume from the factory.

Missing sealant doesn't sound right. I understand each AS is put through a water flood test for something like 45 minutes to test the exterior shell before fitting the interior. Missing sealant would have shown up. Might be a poor application that eventually opened up under travel conditions

I'm happy to hear a story of support from the mfr'r beyond their legal requirement. Thanks for posting.

Glad they fixed it for you under warranty. Coming from the classic trailer side of the house, I will say its only a matter of time till another one pops up and you should keep on the lookout for any telltale signs. Leaks can be hard to find since they travel in between the skins and arent obvious.

Turns out there was a void under the window sealant. It traveled over/down the wall. According to service it took them about and hour to find/fix.
