Rear Bumper/fender on 2017 Sport 16

I just added a rear fender/bumper on 2017 sport 16. Its being installed at the factory.

Outside of spending a fair amount of money and adding some weight -
did I create any unknown issues?

Thanks

There has been some discussion about how this might affect the structure long term but the fact that you had it done at the factory is a positive. I would think twice about adding any additional weight to the rear via a bike rack, hitch receiver, etc.

Thank you - I wouldn't have made the modification if it wasn't done at the factory

How much weight does the bumper add?

I am having the factory bumper installed at Holiday Travel Trailer, NM an authorized dealer. As long as they follow the factory specifications I think you are good and SINCE you had it done at the factory I think you are golden :-)

I had the bumper installed and the receiver for a bike rack. used the helium bike rack and two carbon fiber bikes. Once i installed my rear camera I saw how much the bikes were jumping and decided it can't be good for the bikes or the trailer, so I have moved the bikes to the top of the Yukon. I still like the storage in the bumper and a place to rest the bins in back while i rummage.

I had one installed on my 2017 Bambi at the dealer. It has been fine. A great place to store the Blue Ox bits and pieces while the trailer is parked up. It's almost empty when towing.

We had the rear storage bumper installed on our 2017 Bambi 16 and are very pleased. There is one thing to be mindful of. The bumper sticks out quite a ways out. This creates a problem when you are driving over a driveway, such as a gas station, when there is a dip. The bumper will scrape the pavement when the trailer wheels are heading up hill and the tail is is still negotiating the low point of the dip. The only solution is to be very selective, meaning plan ahead, on which driveway you choose.

Unless the 16' is a lot different than others... I can't see this happening. My 22' Bambi has two "skid plates" (some folks call them "fins") beneath the rear frame to protect against this problem. There's simply no way one would inadvertently drag the bumper without first scraping those.
The axle lift kit is the answer to all the low-clearance issues.

On the contrary, just looking at the side view photo that overlander posted, the original configuration has the skid plates and you can see that the angle from the rear wheels to the original end of the trailer, this would be the fine. But with the addition of that bumper, they are now merely a cosmetic feature and would need to be a few inches longer to provide the protection they were designed for.
So, as cautioned be aware of where you drive into, otherwise I would think you can easily find some replacement skids to work with the be angle. For instance the ones on the new basecamp might be large enough to accomplish it.

Would you be willing to share what a fair amount of money was for the install at the factory?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums.
Just remember, it's a "bumper". It will help minimize damage in a very low speed collision, generally less than 5 mph. It's not going to stop, or even slow down, the ID10T that's doing 30 mph while sending a text message.
