Picked up new Sport

We just picked up our 2013 Sport over the week end.

Our 2010 Jeep Liberty towed it like a dream. We we're able to pull the unit over a 6% grade and we we were able to keep a steady 50 mph the whole way.

We spent the rest of the week end loading, organizing and getting familiar with all the systems.

We even introduced our two rough coat Collies Jack and Rose to the new coach. Jack claimed the bed (just like in our Casita) and Rose enjoyed the larger floor area.

We are looking forward to our first outing this October to Yosemite in our silver bullet.

Thumbs up

Congratulations!! The experience has just begun. I'll never forget the thrill of buying a new Airstream. That's one sweet looking rig.

Congratulations!!

The hitch set up looks a little high. Generally you want the trailer level or a little low in the front.

If i may ask,
What did the unit set you back for?

Hitch / Cost

The trailer sits "slightly high" in the front but the install tech at the dealer said it would "settle" a bit after the first trip out. I'm running with the "Equalizer" brand combination sway control and equilizer bars. No more chains to adjust or separate sway control bar to attach.

Coming home it towed and tracked better than when I had the Casita behind me.

Once home and in the driveway I leveled the unit and then installed bubble levels on the front and by the edge of the entry door so I'll be able to accurately level the trailer at campsites.

The MSRP was $41,740 and the dealer South West Coaches in Corona, CA knocked off $3K and gave me some discounts on the cost and install of an extra battery and the porch light off the Safari. They did a super job installing the Safari porch light and switch so now I have the original small light down by the door and the bigger brighter one just to the left of the door where the earlier 16 foot Bambi's had them.

I was able to get great financing that even beat my credit union couldn't match. All in all no complaints.

Front Protection

I asked the dealer the same question.

It does have the film installed on the corners and I plan on installing a gravel catch under the back of the bumper much like the big rigs use to minimize crap coming up and peppering the trailer.

I remember a few years back Airstream was installing the smoked plexiglass wraps on the 16 footers but so far I can't fine information on them. I was thinking a pair off the International or Safari but the cost from the dealer is quite dear.

What other products are out there that would do the job but would not take away the "style" of the trailer?

Congratulations on your new Sport! I second mefly2, get the segment protectors. I've got a set of flaps on the truck and my segment protectors are still pretty dinged up from goodies picked up on the road. There is a factory video on how to install them if you want to do it yourself.

Congratulations, nice looking rig. You're going to enjoy it.

On the hitch install, he is feeding you a line. Nothing will "settle", it's just improperly installed. I don't think I would ask the same guy to readjust it, get an installer who knows what they're doing. Or if you're handy, it's easy to do using the Equal-I-Zer instructions, book or on-line.
