Took some pics of the new Caravel this weekend. The Caravel in these pics is basically an upgraded trim to the 22 Sport. Ducted AC for example.

Just went to the AS site to review. Lots of new features but still no walk around bed so the wife isn't interested. As usual, AS makes sure to render our Bambis less desirable with the new Caravel. Just enough new stuff like the ducted A/C, Balderi vent hood, 3-burner stove, backlit overhead cabinets to make most shoppers no longer interested in the Sport now (unless you discount it $10k).

Beware buyers of 2019 22FB Sports -- you will be getting the dealer's old stock so demand a lot of free extras. The Caravel is coming to a dealer near you.

(oh and the Caravel is $17000 more than the 2018 22 Bambi)

I was really hoping the new 19' Bambi would weigh a bit less than the 2019 22' Sport for those of us with a 500/5000 tow capacity. I noticed they are all the same width now while the 22' Sport was narrower. Both the 16' Bambi and Caravel hitch weights have jumped. Not sure what would cause that on the Bambi. Caravel is 490, so pretty much would have to haul completely empty.

Honestly, taking a look back at 2019 inventory now. How does your 22' Sport tow with your Toyota?

The FC19 and FC20 are both gone. I'd be interested to know what they did to bring down the weights on the 20 Caravel compared to the FC. Also like to know how those two way electric-only refrigerators work and how much power they use.

My 2 cents:

The Caravel was resurrected (circa 1960s) to provide a price point between the Sports and the Flying Clouds. AS wanted to find a way to lure the Sport owners who wanted a little more 'stuff' to the middle tier.

AS must now believe the entry level Sports will still available for newbie (millennial) buyers, but the Caravel will lure most Sport owners to the next level. Caravels are nice but don't have enough to lure me from a $54K rig to a $70K rig. The FCs are very nice but that price point of $88-90K is way too much for me (and maybe many others).

I'll keep my 22FB Sport (and my IRA) and upgrade any missing 'stuff' as needed. I just can't see spending $17k more for a Caravel. Nice try Airstream. Wish you all well in Jackson Center. Stream On.

hi @mesherw

me too, i will keep our 2017 As22fb.

i did many of the updates myself
the only one i cant do is the ducted AC

the only model we would get, if/when we retire the As22FB sport is the FC 23 FB
like the sport, the Fc23FB is the only ones with a dual sink
the 2 items we like are, bed access is much better and ducted AC

I was comparing apples to apples. 22 Caravelle v the 22 Sport. The prices are likely to be $15K apart.

Yep. Like mine. You should keep yours as you have a lot of upgrades. I'm not that proficient.

Have 2019 22 and would buy caravel if doing today. Ducted air and 3.5 inches inside as my hair brushes the AC unit now is worth 15 to 17 k. But next upgrade is 25 or 27 and Ram

A good summary. A few other items:

all Airstream windows (not Hehr like most windows on Sport models)
22FB is 8' wide, compared to 7'3.25" of 22FB Sport
aluminum step
Sunbrella awning fabric instead of vinyl?

Some of the differences are very attractive, although not nearly enough to justify a trade.

Now that the FC 19 is gone what effect might that have on the resale value of a late model FC 19?

AlbertF, nice catch

I was wondering as both the Bambi and caravel line now show all models 20'+ as 8' wide.

Our 2017 As 22Fb is only 7'3" , thus the additional 9" would be nice, but more work for the TV to pull as it stick out almost 5" more on each side, thus longer mirrors are needed

I don't keep meticulous records that far back but it sticks in my head that the 2005 22 FB CCD LISTED at about $33K

Infamous for frames breaking and OSB floor and rear rot due to no sealant at the bumper... So some quality issues have been worked on, not all of the improvements are cosmetic.

But that's still a lot of inflation. What did a 2005 F-250 gasser retail for then... and now?
To really put it into perspective, In 1966 my goal was to earn $1000 a month, and be in deep clover.
