Sounds like a good tow vehicle to me.
Which has more passenger room and cargo room? Or is the interior volume equal? It may be an illusion, but the Wrangler looks bigger.

The Wrangler is a bit bigger and has more cargo room. However, I can't open the rear doors on the Wrangler while hitched up. The Cherokee isn't a problem. Also, the wrangler is narrower where the side rear-view mirrors attach. I can see around the sides of the AS better with the Cherokee mirrors.

Anyway, I still need to confirm if my coupler is one of the "problem" models.

If your coupler is original to your airstream my guess is your coupler is incompatible with the Anderson sway & weight distribution hitch. My understanding is with some wear the coupler can become disconnected from your vehicle. That's why I returned the Anderson. I believe Anderson makes good products but after opening the box and finding their warning in bold print. I decided their engineers must know something and I should pay attention to that warning. It was not a risk I was willing to take with my family. Good luck in your decision and please think safety.

It may be tit for tat on which vehicle is better. They may be equal.

Yep, probably not much of an overall difference, all things considered. The differences are very minor, and there are pros and cons on each side.

We're taking our AS back out to the lake again this weekend.

I put my cheap LEDs in all of the interior lighting fixtures today over lunch. They all worked fine upon installation. I'll report more on them, with the links to the ones I bought, once they get more of a thorough test this weekend.

Had another great weekend trip at the lake with the new Airstream. I towed it with my Wrangler again this time. It's about an hour long drive on 'B' roads all the way, with an average speed of approximately 35mph. I averaged 14mpg on this trip.

There are a lot of cattle guards along the way in the road. My Wrangler takes them so much more smoothly than the Cherokee while towing. The experience is opposite when not towing.

Had a chance to use all of my new LED lighting quite a bit. They performed flawlessly and provided very good light. I bought 20 "bulbs" total from Amazon for $34 shipped.

I put these in all of the main fixtures: LINK

And these in all fixtures over the beds and closet for dimmer reading light: LINK

Here are some pics, Santa Rita Mountains in the first picture, Mustang & Whetstone Mountains in the background on the second.

So...any word on how you liked the LEDs? Thanks!

My impression is that water weight has negligible impact on fuel economy. You're adding 200lbs to a 6500 lbs+ combined setup. Altitude difference and Hills between start and end, speed, and headwind will make up the biggest "variables".

Recently towed uphill, ~150miles into a 35MPH steady headwind plus rain at about 65-70MPH. Fuel economy went down 4MPG.

Glad you're enjoying your new airstream. We certainly like our 16' Sport. Just the right size for the two of us. Easy to tow and easy to park.
