Mystery Light

Well, we got our 19' Bambi Int'l home in one piece, and I've spent some time today looking her over a bit closer. Outside on the aft roadside, about halfway between the aft double windows and the cable/phone connections lies a somewhat rectangular, white-lensed light fixture that I can't figure out...the bulb tests good, but I can't detect any power to the socket despite having every switch I could find turned on. Does anyone know what this light is for, and how it's controlled?

Cheers,
Tom

If this is outside, it's a reversed polarity light for your shore power connection. This light, if it's what I think it is, is a danger--it provides a sneak path to power up the shell. If you step off the stairs onto wet ground while touching the shell, you will get a good shock (providing that the shore power socket is wired backwards, of course).

Yep, it's outside. I edited my original post to reflect that. So it'll come on if the shore power connection is bad?

It must have been added by the po. I've got an 06 Bambi and no light over there except a small light by the dump valves. But it's under the belt line. Do you have a pic?

I'll go take one and post it. It looks OEM, though...

Looks like a step light. Did you say it is on side opposite the door?

Looks like our exterior step light and ours turns on with one of the rocker switches by the door.

Our light is seen in post #20, SilverGate's Safari is Home at Last! thread.

What I can't figure out is how to turn it on. If it's connected to the porch light switch by the door, then there's a problem in the wiring somewhere. Any more ideas?

Cheers,
Tom

Yep, it's on the rear left side just forward of the red marker light.

Now that's a reversed power light.

The photo of the light in question is definitely not a power light. The white light looks like a convenice light for hooking up at night.

We were recently told by a salesperson that an Airstream rep had told him that if they misfire a rivet or miscut a hole they will often cover it with a light or nameplate in lieu of replacing a panel. Maybe that's what happened with yours.

Does the switch by the black and grey tank release turn it on?
