Looking at a 2016 16' Sport. It list for $46792.....I am getting it for $37996.95....will have to pay 6.5% FL tax when I get home......Dealer is throwing in a electric jack.

To see if the price is good we also need to know if it has the microwave option and leather interior , and any other things.

That's about a 20% discount, which is considered a good deal.

I would probably ask them to also include the hitch and brake controller for that price.

Sounds like a reasonable price. Make sure the propane tanks are filled!

Also check through the forums classified to get a range based on similar size & year...

Good luck!

It doesn't matter what options are included as they are reflected in the MSRP. 20% off of MSRP at this time of the year (the start of the camping season) is a good price. Also, most dealers include a weight distributing/anti sway hitch in the deal.

Go for it and have fun!

If you want save cash by not pay the state sales tax, annual excise tax and license plates --look into forming an LLC Corporation with Montana LLC in Helena, Montana, or other company, and you will be able register your trailer just once (a permanent registration for the trailer as long as you have it) without ever paying tax and license. There is a nominal annual fee to maintain the LLC.

GOOD LUCK

Yes Mojo, we registered our A/S through Montana Corporate four years ago for a one-time/permanent registration under our LLC. Saving us about $1,100.00 in sales tax + about $800.00 in excise tax + annual excise tax (amount unk) and registration fees. You may register autos, and if 11 years old or more, like my wife's classic Corvette, the same benefits apply plus no annual inspection sticker.

Jerry Ski,

Yes, if you mean annual income tax.

If you do the Montana LLC, keep in mind that your home state may still come looking for the equivalent of sales tax. The states, and federal government, have all kinds of data sharing and they might pick up on the fact that you have your trailer.

I bought a Cessna 150 in Maine, registered it with the FAA and flew it home to Florida. Three weeks later, the State of Florida hit me up for "use tax" which is the same as sales tax. Either data sharing, or data mining got me.

Just a caveat...

Mike

I do understand that some states do not recognize out-of-LLC's.

The vehicles registered under the LLC do not belong to you--they technically belong to your LLC Located in Montana and you simply are "driving" a company vehicle

WA has an approx 10% sales tax but no income tax. OR has no sales tax but a substantial income tax. The game for WA owners of licenseable personal property (classic cars, boats, planes, RVs, etc.) was to attempt to avoid WA's sales tax & registration fees by licensing their toys in OR. That largely worked until a few years ago when the WA Dept of Revenue began investigating OR's registrations by WA residents. Whoops, substantial penalties imposed in addition to the requirement to pay WA sales (called "use") tax (at least for such property brought back into WA). That game for WA residents is now largely over except for gamblers (and this WA resident does not like the odds of betting against the state).

My sweetie's ex (who lived in the mid-west) had a >$1M Prevost motor coach. He avoided his home state's taxes & fees on it by buying an RV lot (ie, real property) in a state with no sales tax & low registration fees & then licensing his coach in that state. Apparently, that worked for him. I believe some resident states, however, require that the property be located in the state of registration (and out of the resident state) for at least six months of the year to avoid its taxation by the resident state. And if a WA resident licenses personal property in OR & brings the property back into WA on a more or less full-time basis, its subject to WA use tax & registration (& likely penalties). The effect of registering personal property in an LLC or corporation on its tax & registration liability remains to be determined. If the appropriate agency in Maine knew that one of its residents bought an RV out of state, registered it as property of a Montana LLC, but brought the RV back into Maine on a more or less full-time basis, I wonder what it's response would be? If the RV stays out of Maine, that's one thing. If brought into Maine & kept there for any significant time, I would expect the Maine agents might be concerned.

"For details go to: www.montanacorporate.com"

There are two issues here:
1. Is montanacorporate.com factually correct? Apparently so at least as regards Montana residents. [The same result likely obtains for purchases in NV or OR, both no-sales tax states.]
2. Note, however, that montanacorporate.com is largely silent on whether or not sales tax may be imposed by a non-Montana resident's state. It does say "Depending on your state’s sales tax rate, you can legally save $25,000 or more on your purchase." but provides no legal authority therefor whatsoever.

Regarding that last issue, see:

http://lastbestnews.com/site/2015/04...-vehicles-rvs/

And in CA if a corporation or LLC pays consideration for a vehicle, that transfer is subject to CA use tax:

http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub52.pdf

Therefore, having an out-of-state corporation or LLC purchase an RV would not appear to shield a CA-resident owner from liability for CA use tax.
