We're out in Winie a minimum of once a month with our club...feel very fortunate as we have friends in the northwest and midwest who put their rigs away for several months. Have a Merry Christmas in Arkansas!

Tire help

We want to replace the trailer tires but need help. As purchased new had ST225/75R15 with Goodyear Marathon. What do you recommend? Hubby wants Michelin but they don't make 15". Or do we change rims to 16 inch?
Appears reviews of most tires are not good. Discount Tire recommended Carlisle but appears they also have bad reviews. Has anyone changed to 16 inch. Or what tires have you used when changing? Called Airsteam of Chicago and they said had a trailer 19 footer with Michelin L T X 235/75R16.
Discount Tire said they don't recommend LTX for trailer use. Any brand recommendations? What are other 75 Anniv special edition owners using?
We really would appreciate your advice!

We have towed our 75th a little over 40,000 miles now. First set of GY Marathons were replaced at about 25K due to strange sidewall bulges. Just replaced the second set of Marathons when the tread on the street side appeared to be separating from the tire. After discussion with Discount Tire we took their recommendation of Greenball Transmaster. Our Discount Tire slesman was not a proponent of Carlisle, ranking them as about equal to the Marathon.

The Transmasters we got are a load range E tire (our Marathons were D). They are ST225/75R115E1 117 L B. Along with the tires we are also adding Centramtic dynamic full time wheel balancers. Will update this when we have a few Ks miles on this new configuration.

We had two GYM blowouts on our '05 16' Bambi, so when we found our 75th a couple years ago, I immediately replaced the 15" GYMs with 225/75-16 Michelin XPS Rib.
I bought 16" rims and baby moons from Dexstar, the supplier of the original equipment wheels on the 75th Custom. I purchased mine from Redneck Trailer Supply, and they are the Dexstar "Conventional" #017-235-25. They have the required bolt pattern and offset, of course.
Dexstar Wheel Company Trailer Rims and Wheels
They come in grey, so I had them pained satin black. The tire is considered overkill by some, but I think of it as good insurance. One of the blowouts we had on the '05 Bambi resulted in damage from flying rubber, which is quite common.

What tire

This is a very timely post for me as I want to replace the oem GY Marathons now, due to age. Don't want to go to new rims.

Any more suggestions on tires? I have heard that it is important to stick with an ST (trailer rated) tire. True ?

TS - We don't want this to turn into another tire thread, the forum has too many as is.
The problem with 15" is the load rating offered now. I don't believe there are any 15" light truck tires left, and the 15" XL rated SUV tires are load rated just under what you'd want for our 19' Bambi. ST tires do have a higher load rating, but I believe they have way too many other shortcomings. When we had our 16' Bambi, I went with 225/75-15 Pirelli Scorpion 106T rated XL tires (2094# per tire), but that trailer was at least 500 pounds lighter, and the load rating was within the limits. Our 19' Bambis are over weight for that tire when fully loaded.
Tire companies have gotten away from the old 15" LT tires, and only offer 16" and above now. I don't trust ST tires, so for me, the only acceptable solution was to change out the wheels to 16". I've never worried about blowouts since.
If you stay with 15" ST tires, monitor them closely and cruise at lower speeds.

It is with a sad heart that I announce we are selling (did I say that out loud?!) our Winie. It's given us so many miles of fun but with an expanding family (another dawg) we are outgrowing our Bambi. Do you have friends who have lusted over your Winick? We are looking for a good home. $45,000, firm. Please PM for more information.
