For the work on the newer Airstreams, is it possible to get the unit empty from the dealer to have him work on it? Does anyone know how much more these units cost compared to a comparable new unit?
David did the prototype. Airstream essentially then copied the design and built the 75 units. If you check photos from David's site vs the actual units, you'll notice that they used his ideas, but no doubt scrimpted here and there.

From what I had seen, some units may have went for almost full MRSP, ie 60K plus. A lot of units though went more for like 50K. A regular CCD which the 75th is based on would be substantially less.

Personally if I had it to do over again (and had a bit of time to wait), I'd have David build you exactly what you want (probably save some $$$'s too).

Actually, today Airstream will sell you an empty shell on wheels if you contract to have the interior finished by an Airstream-approved shop. See the current Summer 2009 issue of Airstream Life magazine for one such example reviewed by Interior Designer Judy Brotherton.

Thumbs up I found one!

Really, NUMBER 1...it's owned by a DenCO Unit couple here in Colorado. I forgot to ask them if it was okay to share their names for the registry while we were camped at a rally this last weekend (they aren't forum members), but I will try to remember next time I see them.

Sorry for the OT deviation - how "empty" is the shell? Do they install a bathroom and holding tanks at the factory? Are windows where you specify, or where they would be for the normal "finished" version of that trailer?

Not that I could ever afford one, but a custom 19" AS with dual wrap windows, a 60"-wide queen-sized bed in the back, gaucho across the front, and a small side wet bath like a 16' Bambi would please me very much....

Tom

In addition to mutcth's questions, is there a comprehensive list of AS-approved shops online somewhere? Thanks in advance!

#44 Winick at Colonial

So I live near Colonial and am considering buying #44. Any advice as to what to look for?? I'm leary of buying a trailer not knowing its history. While the people at Colonial are very nice, they could tell me nothing about its pre-auction history. Its very clean inside and out, but shows some very faint speckling on the bathroom door (water damage??) and slight, slight, delamination on same. Also a nick in one of the lower cabinets, and slight scuffs on interior of upper storage bins. Maybe the theory of an accident explains the dings.

Would you buy it? What is a fair price??

Sue

PS How does that shower door hold up, it looks somewhat delicate?

Hi Sue...
We purchased our 19" international from Colonial.
Indeed, great people. Patrick and Lauren were both especially helpful.
Also, really nice service after the sale. I've emailed/called with little q's and always get a prompt response.
Knowing these are hard to find and knowing the people at airstream i'd say go for it!
Let us know what you ultimately decide.
Regards,
Eric

Thumbs up Shower Door

That shower door is much more durable than it appears. We have had no trouble with ours in two years and 20,000+ miles of travel.

Sadly I have to part with my 75th Anniversary Bambi, #14. Its what drew me to Airstream and the idea of getting one. But I just didnt count on my kids growing. A major flaw in my thinking. Ive located a suitable replacement. I only wish they made this version bigger. Ive listed it in the classified and on ebay. If you know of someone who will give it a good home send em my way. I'll be an international 27Fb owner at the end of this. But I'll probably poke back around here because I'll miss the folks in the club.

The 75th Bambi is beautiful, but I have the same problem with it. It's too small for my family of four, particularly with kids who are close to becoming teenagers.
