Close to Buying 16' Bambi Sport

Hi Folks,
I have been doing a lot of inline research. I am very close to deciding on a 16' Sport for my wife and I. Tow vehicle is a 2014 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD. Specs are as follows:
3.6L Pentastar® V6 VVT
290 hp
260 lb-ft of torque
8-Speed Automatic Transmission

Class III – Heavy Duty
Trailer Tow Group
Max towing: 6,200 pounds, Max payload: 1270 pounds

Thanks for helping me with a couple of questions.

I think that the tow vehicle should be just fine and I'll add a weight distribution hitch.

I will ask the dealer to install solar.

Anyone heard if the 2015s will be any different?

Any other add-ons that I should talk to the dealer about?

Thanks,
Dean

Your tow set up will be great. I tow my 2006 16' with a Jeep Liberty Diesel with weight distribution. No problems.

Solar is a great add-on. I just installed solar and so far love it.

Good luck and happy travels!

Just to confirm: your Jeep will tow this fine. Have used a very similar 2014 GC V6 8spd to tow my 23' trailer with no problem at all.

The difference between 2014 and 2015 16 sport is the 2015 16 sport are optional ultra leather gold or black interior and new more accurate tank monitoring system and USB chargers plugs instead of traditional cigarette 12volt plug, and you will have no problem towing a 16 sport with your jeep 4x4

Tom,

I'm so happy to hear this. I've got the same tow vehicle and have been a bit discouraged by the feedback I've gotten on it when researching and posting for advice on what trailers "should" tow with it. I've not towed an Airstream with it yet so I can't defend then vehicle for that purpose myself yet, but what I have towed, it was really easy to forget something was behind me--and that includes a 16' trailer loaded down with 12 11' stand up paddle boards and corresponding paddles through the busy freeways of Houston, quite a bit of drag and sway potential there. I absolutely love the vehicle for every day, and really look forward to being able to dual purpose it once I've found my trailer.

I think you'll be VERY happy with your Jeep acting as your tow vehicle as long as you don't want to spend lots of time driving above the speed limit. You'll want more horsepower if you plan to comfortably cruise above 70 mph unless you're on flat terrain.

Your decision to get the weight distribution/sway control hitch setup is the right one.

I would be careful of the payload however. It is so easy to overload your tow vehicle when you start throwing extra passengers, the dog, the cat, and all your junk behind the back seat.

You might want to read the forums a bit before getting the factory solar setup. I've read that it is pretty expensive for what you get. It seems that many owners choose to install the system themselves or have it installed by the aftermarket.

Your vehicle should tow it fine. We upped the tow vehicle more based on our V-6 FJ wanting Premium gas and having a 17 gallon fuel tank. If you have a decent size tank and it burns regular I think you will be happy. You don't need a ton of power to pull these.

My TV is a Honda Ridgeline with V6 for my 16' sport. I would think you would be just fine.

We tow a 22' 2013 Sport with a 2009 Jeep Liberty 2wd. I did add a K&N cold air filter kit to the 3.7 engine which increased mid range power a bit. I would also suggest putting a vent cover over the exhaust vent if you are in a rainy location.Click image for larger version

I also added several additional AS towel bars and the screen door guards since we travel with 3 small dogs. Click image for larger version
