San Clemente / Business's in Old Airstream's

We we're on the road this past Saturday heading from our home in Orange to El Cajon down the 5 fwy. I've never have camped on the coast in that area but I always see lots of RV's there. How hard is it to get a spot on week ends or anytime?

We go to O'Neil state park out in the Santa Ana Mts. for quick overnighters.

On another point I was recently in Austin, TX and while there I saw three old AS's that had been turned into "lunch wagons". They do make a great draw for a mobile food business.

It is hard to get a spot along the Orange county coast. I make my reservations 6 months out but this one was made on the Monday before this last weekend. People to cancel and I get on the website daily when we want to go somewhere. Last year we had a reservation someone cancelled for Morro, partial hook ups in south Newport beach. I may not have the name right? Beautiful place. I posted a picture here somewhere.

JackDog,

Thanks for the welcome. The Lone Star State has some incredible access to public land in general, millions of acres to play on. This is one reason I'm so excited to have the AS. Hope you enjoy your visit, stop in Big Bend on your way across i10.

Great pictures, more would be nice to see. I always wondered what my dear Bambi would look like in the great southwestern part of the country. Darn, I am recovering from back surgery 7 weeks ago, and that is slowing me down a bit. However, living in Virginia, I think I might sneak out and flush my systems--I do not think it will freeze anymore until next winter. Wife is attending a fashion show and I finally have some time alone---I know...no lifting, bending, or stooping---okay!!!

What is the longest trip you all have taken in your 16r . We are planning a long trip out west next year and may upgrade the tacoma to a tundra as I'm not sure the tacoma can handle the mountains.

Thumbs up Longest Trip

The trip we just got back from was 3,000 miles and lasted 2 weeks. We did New Mexico and Utah. We didn't really run through any long climbing stretches but the rig did fine. The tiny tin can followed every turn without any complaints or issues. We averaged 12.5 mpg of gasoline with the 2013 F150 V8 5.0L. Doing a Texas to Grand Canyon, AZ to Black Canyon of Gunnison NP, CO and back in June.

Longest Trip

We've had our Sport since September of 2012 and the longest trip we've taken so far was from So Cal to the Nor Cal (Redwoods) then to the Oregon Coast and back via 395 through eastern Oregon and California (just over 1,800 miles.

We went over a few mountain passes and at first the breaks on the Liberty got a bit hot until we did some adjustments to the Prodigy 2 brake controller.

The Liberty isn't a rocket thus we plan to upgrade to a Grand Cherokee V6 which should solve the power problem on the steep grades.

So far we've done 6 major trips, 8 weekenders (we're still working) in 18 months. My girlfriend loves showing off the AS to everyone we meet; this coming from someone who wasn't sure about doing vacationing in an RV.

Having a bathroom, A/C, microwave, TV, stereo etc. has made her a happy camper. We've come along way since our Jayco tent trailer with a port-a-pottie!

A couple "fish-eye" shots of our 16 ... one from the northern california coast and one from Yosemite. California winter camping is the best!

Yosemite

NorCal Bass,

I've been going to Yosemite since I was a kid. Summers in the valley in our parents AS International were magical.

Right after we purchased our 13' Sport we stayed outside the park on our first trip with the AS in the fall of 2012.

We plan on staying in the valley this fall so it will be the first time inside the park with the Bambi. Our favorite campground is North Pines.

I've included a shot from 2012 at Olmstead Point off Tioga and a valley photo from the Tunnel View parking lot.

Zion / Bryce Airstream Eye Candy

I'm really enjoying this thread; just got back from Easter Week also at Zion and Bryce.

Here are a couple of shots of the AS and the parks. The weather was spectacular not so much with the Easter week crowds. Conner our new co-pilot enjoyed his first trip out in the Bambi.

We also had the extra bonus a seeing the full lunar eclipse while in Zion.
