Registering the trailer should be no different that the normal DMV drill for you.

Hey UncleMax,

Sounds like you and I are coming on board about the same time with the same issues and questions. I too have recently been trying to find a TV to tow a 16' Bambi QuikSilver (3500 lb GVWR). My top two choices were the Tacoma (6500 lb rating) and the Nissan Frontier (6100 lb rating). I ended up going with an '06 Crew Cab Frontier only because I got a better deal on it.

Two days ago I purchased the Bambi and towed it back to Boulder (yeah, we have that in common too) from Albuquerque over Raton Pass in S. Colorado. The Frontier did well, and I got a little over 12 mpg. Still need to test it out in the weeks to come on some higher passes (Eisenhower, Berthoud, Trailridge), but I am cautiously hopeful the Frontier will safely be up to the challenge.

Just curious - have you found a good storage place yet, or are you keeping it on your property? I'm found a storage site on Araphoe Rd. that I plan to "move into" this weekend.

I'm towing my new Bambi 16 Ocean Breeze with my silver '05 Tacoma and it looks great. I just figured out that my "shake-down" trip will be about 4400 miles

Hey Tim, so great to know another 16' Bambi owner in Boulder. Sounds like the Frontier is working well for you as a tow vehicle, i have a buddy with a crew cab like yours and he really loves it. i got a good deal on the Tacoma, so im hoping it will do well, better than my old clunker of a truck anyway. Let me now how it goes on those high passes!
Ive been trying to research storage places, someone sent me to Arapahoe Self Storage, but i haven't checked it out yet. I will be picking up my rig first week in April, but i'd love to locate a good storage place soon, so i'd be interested to hear how the move-in went for you.

Looks like you are now using a Toyota FJ for towing your trailer after pulling it with a Tacoma for awhile. Can you share how the FJ is working as a tow vehicle. Would you consider towing a 20 with the V6 or V8 FJ?

I'm not sure who on this thread is towing with the FJ Cruiser. I am happy with the V6 Tacoma I got, its pulling my 16' 2007 Bambi CCD with an Equil-i-zer Hitch like a dream, I barely know Im towing at all. But the guy I bought the Bambi from used an FJ Cruiser, and he said it pulled just fine. For a 20' I'd definitely go up to the V8.

We towed our 16' 2005 International with a new-ish Tacoma, and really liked the combination. We had plenty of power for mountain driving. With a cap (topper, canopy) on the back of the truck, we also had a lot of room for camping gear that would never have all fit into a SUV.

We used to have a 2007 Tacoma TRD 2WD Double Cab with the tow package, towing a 2006 19' Bambi... WE loved that truck. But decided to trade up for a 2016 Tacoma TRD 2WD Double Cab with at the tow package recently...so far so good...a bit more power and much smoother all around. We are liking it!

I tow my 19' Bambi with a 2011 4x4 Tacoma with a six speed manual transmission. With a manual transmission I don't need any extra oil cooler, and I can pick the right gear for a hill. It does a good job.

As someone else mentioned, I have a canopy on the back so I can bring along a Colman stove, Honda generator, fire wood and my fishing boat motor. As you'll see in the photo, I also take along a fishing boat with a cool automatic boat loader. I just realized while I've set up the boat loader to go over the canopy, I don't have a photo of it. Anyway, it's a great set up I'm really happy with.

We have a 16 bambi and had a 13 v6 extended cabTacoma with a matching silver cover and loved it. Went over the mountains out west and had no problems. I have since traded it in for the 16 version and although I do not like the truck as much it does get better MPG. I do not like the interior as much and the brake controller now has to go to the left of the steering wheel as they put an air bag to the right. It is a nicer ride and quieter. Toyota mechanic says they changed the transmission so we will see how it does if I ever head west again from Flatlander Rhode Island. Of course these are first world problems.
