I honestly can't figure out what could make the Winick rig nicer than yours. It is absolutely gorgeous. I'd be proud as heck to have one that was done up the way you have yours finished.

Seeing yours sure got us thinking about how nice the newer units are. We are diehard vintage (ourselves included) but yours was the first one to cause us to pause and talk about how nicely they can be done. I'm sure if Donna was offered the chance to buy one she'd really be hard pressed to not do so. That is a 100% reversal from her thoughts prior to seeing yours.

I can appreciate the desire for those who want the uniqueness of the Winick (?sp) version given our penchant for unique cars, but at the same time, if one is willing to accept a unit that is not so badged and from my understanding other than a few small variances - all cosmetic - otherwise an identical rig, and the exact same functionality, then finding one of the regular versions like yours would be an excellent find.

And you two have proven that under certain circumstances it can be a longer term termpory residence.

There is one for sale in the Airforum classifeds in Connecticut. The more I read Winnick's book, the more I really like this model - but the $55k for the as-new trailer currently advertised in the classifieds strikes me as a big chunk of money.

I've seen used ones go for @ $35000 so $55000 is way to high. They were 60000 new.

I looked at the one in Conn. Last week, it is not in the best condition, filofilm, dents, scratches, interior wood scraped...not even close to "as new" condition.

That's too bad. Maybe that's why they didn't post pictures. I really wanted one when I was looking last year and missed out on one for @ $34,000 that was in great condition. I love our CCD and now I think I'm happier with the bathroom sink and dedicated bed. Also saved @ $7000 to boot!

Yikes - did you wind up flying out from CA only to find that? I do appreciate the feedback - it helps confirm that the $55k was wildly overpriced.

Too bad I probably can't afford to have David Winnick build one with a front panoramic window...

noetic are you referring to #9 which Bob has for sale? I thought it was like new and had only been used a few times, or is this #44 which Colonial Airstream had for sale (I see that it is currently showing as sold).

We are Winick alumni now

We loved our Winick #72 but we sold it in October 2010 to a fellow in Portland, Oregon. We decided to restore a 1957 Caravanner.

We also had a bad experience in our search for a Winick....the trailer was near the beach in California, it had severe corrosion & was filthy....despite a still hefty asking price.

Hey, Morrison, Colorado! Sad to hear you sold your Winick but know and appreciate what it takes to restore a 50's Airstream. We have been restoring Pearl forever, which is why we purchased our Winick Bambi, "Winie", to use until our vintage is on the road. Some day we may part with the Winick, but in the meantime, we're enjoying it! One of 75 made, it is definitely unique, and draws attention, when we pull into a campground!

We'll have Winie at the 4th Annual Vintage Airstream Restoration Rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 9-12. Stop by if you are in the area!

Winick the Craftsman

I had the pleasure to meet David Winick, a great craftsman, at the Palm Springs Modernism Show in March. Great guy, fabulous book!

Hi Lynda

Lynda we are planning to attend the restoration rally. We hope to be in our 'new' 57 Caravanner by then. So will have to get a 'Winick' fix & visit your trailer!
