22FB 12V electrical issue
My number one fuse keeps blowing (OH vent fan and bedroom lights).
The circuit still shorts when I pull the fan fuse and keep the lights turned off. Anyone have a similar problem? Where can I find a comprehensive wiring diagram? Are there junction boxes I can open to try to narrow down the location of the short?
This is a fairly new trailer (five weeks of use) and I have not "done" anything to it.
I would like to get this resolved without ripping it apart or towing it 100 miles
plus to a dealer.
Thanks.
- Don

Airstream keeps their as built diagrams to themselves and I have not been able to get any, perhaps someone else has had better luck. A good quality multimeter can be very helpful. Pull the fuse then with the fuse out and lights off check for a ground fault, if not check for continuity to common. Then disconnect the wires at the light switch and try again. the fan wires are fairly easy to access, remove the ornamental bezel and disconnect the fan entirely. After that if continuity is still present it is possible there is a junction under the sink area, though it is unlikely. Hopefully the problem is at the light switch or the fan junction but if not then one of the wires may have an insulation issue. I would do all this before considering opening up the raceways which are behind cabinets and riveted aluminum sheets.

Hi
Wire junctions are made at the "devices". You will find wire nuts behind the lights and behind the fan when you pull them out.

i was able to get all mechanical and electrical drawing form the AS site. the site has all details for all recent models for at least the last 10 years.
just go here. some pages are best printed on 11x17 paper as the details are small

Waninae39,
Thanks, that is quite a reference. I plan to download the linked file to a memory stick to keep in the trailer. Oddly, for 2019, both the Owner's Manual and Parts List links bring up the Parts List, but I have a paper copy of the Owner's Manual, so I don't feel cheated.
The Parts List did not include a wiring diagram that I could find, but the technician at Jackson Center emailed me a copy. It did not magically elevate my limited electrical skills to the point that I am willing to dismantle the trailer for a warranty issue, so some shop time is still in the picture.
Unfortunately, the Ft. Meyers dealer seemed to think they were meeting my needs by scheduling me, first available slot, for March 17, 2020. (70 business days out!!! One does not camp any time of year in FL without a vent van.) It looks like I will be going to the local RV place tomorrow (scheduled two business days out) and asking A-S for reimbursement.
Thanks to everyone for the assistance.
Hmmm... fridge (dealer took care of), water heater (out of pocket) and now this, experienced during six weeks camping in a "like new" premium trailer. Anyone got a nice 70's era Jaguar for sale?

I was never able to find wiring diagrams and schematics for my 2012 on the Airstream web site. However, when I was doing my upgrade, I contacted their technical support and they e-mailed me the drawings. It took quite a few calls to get the necessary drawings, but Airstream was helpful.

Um, I don't see the detailed wiring diagrams for the 12VDC items anywhere on the site. At least not for my International. I have a one line diagram on the lead side up to the converter and fuse panel in the owners manual but nothing after that. I didn't see anything for the 22 sport either. Can someone clarify where to find the detailed 12V wiring diagrams?

Like I said, my manual does not have any detailed drawings. It is the one I downloaded from the Airstream site. I had to call them and ask for drawings, they ask what do you want to see, then send you some drawings. If that is not everything, you call them again...and so on. I think some people actually have detailed drawings/schematics in their manual.

Update: The local shop traced the short to the vent fan - a mounting screw had pierced the wire and it took a few outings before the wire/screw connected to ground. Jackson Center is processing the reimbursement. I'll know in about 5-6 weeks. Thanks for all the good advice. - Don
