2016 Sport 16’ Atwood hot water Heater.

Hello, looking for some help in others that may have had a similar problem with their 6 gal Atwood hot water heater. It starts and runs for a while and then stops. Sometimes it runs for 2 minutes and other times for 10 minutes or so. The warmer the ambient temt is the less it will run. I have replaced the ECO thermostat and there seems to be plenty of fire. (New dinosaur Board next)?? It’s is a model G6A-8E

Thanks for any help you can give me. Regards, Joe

Could it just be cycling normally? I would look a the time frame between cycles since the water may need to heat up from various temps to the limit it’s programmed to shut off.

I don’t think so because let’s say it’s 85 degrees out and I turn on the WH, it will start and run for 3or 4 minutes and turn off. Within a minute or so it will turn back on for less than a minute. This continues for about 6 cycles and then stops, at that point the water is about 100 degrees or so. Just Luke warm.

When you run the hot water alone do you get equal pressure from cold spigot? How about from shower?

There’s water in the tank and seems like equal pressure on hot and cold at the kitchen tap. Have not tried the shower, are you thinking maybe there is air in the lines somewhere?

I am thinking maybe the bypass valves on the heater are not fully in the right position. Just an idea??

Call Airstream Cust Service for new Panasonic board!

Just went through a bad board on my new Flying Cloud 20’FB. Atwood knew they had serious QC problems with their boards and still continued to send out bad boards. After 2nd bad board the Airstream Service Rep sent my Atwood authorized repair guy a new Panasonic board and problem fixed. Good luck!

Sounds like a bad board or the flame sensor is not seeing the flame after it burns for a while. Check that the probe is fully engulfed in the flame. Also shech the board is tightly fastened to the tank. Bad grounds sometimes mess up control. Also check the wiring plug in on the board. Wiggle it to make sure it has good contact and connections.

I spent a few hours on the HW heater problem and here is my conclusion. After checking voltage on valves and aligning and measuring gaps etc. I turned it on. It starts right away but while it was running I started to wiggle wires to check out connections. It stopped every time I moved the thermal cutoff (brown wire with the little fuse in it). I took it off to fine a cold solder joint on the connector.
I then turned the heater back on and it ran quite a while before the second problem kicked in. As it was getting hot the spark igniter started to fire even though the tip of it was red hot. It then turned off and fire up and ran with good flame while the igniter continued to fire. At that point I shut it off and am going to order a new board. Probably a Dinosaure. Hope this helps someone.
Best Regards, Joe
