2016 Bambi Sport

We are in the process of purchasing a new 2016 Bambi Sport. We've made the following improvements: added a back bumper with storage, added a 2nd battery, added two large aluminum propane tanks, added the screen protector & we added the front rock guards.
We are interested in any feedback you might have pro or con which might give us some ideas for further improvements or ideas to avoid pitfalls.
Our tow vehicle is a 2004 Ford Expedition, 5.4 leader, front wheel drive.
Thanks for your feedback.

Congratulations! You have done some excellent upgrades. Ours have been more modest. We have bought the screen door protector grilles (like on the larger AS), a MaxAir Vent cover, and. a sewer solution dump kit. We also updated to LED bulbs and bought an external electrical surge protector and water filter. The towel rack broken on the 2nd trip and we replaced with Ikea-style fold down hooks which work better. Oh, and we replaced the breakaway brake cable with a coiled type.

Congratulation also! We recently purchased a 2015 Sport 16 and we love it. We have made some of the the same changes also that you did along with swapping the lights for LED. My biggest frustration was the fan for the back of the refigerator. It runs constantly and was extremely loud. With the help of this forum I switched it out with two "silent" fans. Now it is almost silent and does a much better job at cooling.

We have a 2010 sport and have added solar. Screen guards, aluminum propane tanks , a lifeline battery, and max fan cover.
The solar worked great this summer on a 7, 500 mile trip out west and the 16 size was great as well. The fridge fan is loud.

How much was the bumper with installation?

Are your improvements being added at the factory while it's building your trailer, or are these aftermarket?

I also have a Sport 22 on order and it would be great to get these improvements as a part of the construction process.

We were told by the dealer that the bumper is no longer a dealer-installed option due to structural issues related to mounting it. I am not sure if it can be added by the factory.

How did you add a second battery? I also have a Sport 22. My dealer, and my measurement, says there is not enough room for two batteries without some structural mods. Photos would be helpful. Thank you.

Bumper for 16'

we too want to add the bumper to the back of our 16'. I see it available on aistreamsupply.com. I also see there are two steel "tabs" under the rear of the trailer. Does anyone have experience with the bumper?

My dealer said he never installed a bumper on a Sport 16. He received a set of installation instructions from the factory. Estimated 3-4 hours of labor at $95.00 per hour.

I plan on purchasing my trailer early next year. My question is why can't you purchase the bumper with instructions and take it to a local welding shop or a local mechanic. I think for something that only needs to be attached you could beat that $95.00 an hour labor. I needed some welding work recently and found a farmer that repairs utility trailers. Dave

Our 2005 16-foot International Bambi came with the rear storage bumper, stone guards, and metal propane tank guard as standard equipment. These are also standard on our 19-foot FC. We considered staying with the 16-foot length with the second AS in 2014, but would have wanted these features as add-ons, as the newer Sport is so minimalist. Our dealer (Airstream of Spokane) said they could be added on there.

If you live in Utah and look forward to lots of mountain and desert camping along dirt and gravel roads, the stone guards are a good idea, for sure.

Even on a 16 a electric front jack is very useful especially if you use a weight distribution switch.
I had Can Am install 2 batteries on my 16'. They had to trim one of the battery cases a little bit and it looked fine.
