2009 Bambi Flying Cloud Jack Location

Stupid question I am sure but curious about proper jack location for my newly acquired Bambi. Owners manual says location should be marked, but there are not stickers or riveted plate. Need to replace tire before long trip because of slow leak. Also, what is best jack (bottle, floor, etc.) to keep on hand?

Bought used late last year and loving the couple of trips we were able to do in fall. Have about five weeks planned so far this year! First post....appreciate any help!

Welcome to the forum! What is the length of your 2009 Flying Cloud? In general the jacking locations are to the rear of the tires, under the belly pan (and under the structural steel frame) where a small diamond-shaped plate might be located. Your "Jacking Point" decals may be missing.

At the top left of p. D-10 of the owner's manual [p. 48/117 of the PDF]:

https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...gcloud2009.pdf

there is an illustration of the jacking point labeled "H" just behind the rear tire [single tire in the case of your Bambi]. There should be a small extra plate riveted to the underside of the belly pan here. We usually put an extra scrap of 2x4 between the top of our hydraulic jack, and the metal plate on the trailer, in order to spread out the load, and also to avoid any metal-to-metal contact. We have a bunch of wood scraps in the tow vehicle for leveling the rig when camping. Also, if the ground is uneven when you need to jack, you can use various wood scraps to get things level under the jack, and spread out the jack load if the ground is soft.

Please reply with any questions or requests for clarification. I could take a photo tomorrow of the jacking plate in our 2014 FC20.

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- Sample 2-ton hydraulic bottle jack, which should be enough for one side of your Bambi:

A 4-ton would be more useful for the tow vehicle, but is larger and heavier. We carry a couple of jacks in the tow vehicle as they are relatively inexpensive. A little redundancy is OK.

2009 Bambi Flying Cloud Jack Location

Peter, thanks for the info! Finally had time after work tonight to really crawl under and take a longer look. I found the jack locations, further back from the axle than I thought they would be. Stickers are still there just covered up a bit. One of my plates to mark the location is missing on side I needed to change so I guess that is why I was having difficult time finding.

Read in another forum that someone actually recommended to jack on the strut frame instead to prevent punching through in case jack slipped. Thoughts? See pics. One of the downsides to owning a single axle!

Great! As I said earlier, we always put a scrap of 2x4 on the flat between the top of the jack and the diamond jack plate. [10-12" long or so] This way the head of the jack compresses into the wood a bit, and won't slip.
