19 ft Bambi

Hello all,
I am looking at a 06 Bambi that looks brand new at a dealer out west. The dealer represents it as only being driven from Ohio to Arizona. It has a $41000.00 asking price and they have informed me I can but for $29,900 and that was before I made an offer.
Can anyone give me input on pricing? Does this seem to be in the ball park?>
Also I have a Chrysler 300 with a v8 Hemi. Is this enough power to pull?

LOL, with the Chrysler Hemi 300 you could probably pull the Bambi at freeway speed while still in cylinder deactivation mode.

You don't need a lot of power to pull these, but it does weigh two tons. Around 3500 empty and 4500 fully loaded, with almost 500# of tongue weight, so your unibody car will need a stout tow set up - probably suspension work in back, tranny cooler.
The price seems about right to start negotiation.

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

The price of the Bambi sounds OK, but I would do some serious internet shopping first. Make sure that you feel good about the unit and the price.

As far as your Chrysler 300 tow vehicle, I would suggest some further research. Unibody vehciles are generally not the best choice for heavy towing (over 4,000 lbs.). There is no frame to attach a hitch receiver to.

Out of curiosity as to the Chrysler 300's tow capacity, I went to the Chrysler website. According to information on chrysler.com, under towing capacity for a 2008 Chrysler 300 RWD V-8, it states "NOT RECOMMENDED". If the manufacturer does not recommend towing at all with a certain vehicle, it's probably a really bad idea.

Is this a new 2006, not previously owned?? Seems odd. If you're dealing with the only Phx metro AS dealer, be careful. Our experience with their sales people was not good...and by the way, they had no 2006 19' Bambis when we were looking in early 2007...

We had a 19' for two of us and a 65lb pooch. It was crowded at times. If you have similar, I would consider larger, only from the standpoint that I like so many others got the trailer first due to tow vehicle limitations and wound up going slightly larger and getting the right tow vehicle. That may or may not apply to you.

Your 300 has ample power to tow, but these cars are designed to be street rods for grocery getting and people moving. The new V8s being put into the flashy cars from GM too are very powerful, but the bodies, suspension parts, etc shockingly, even to me are rated at 3000lbs or far less in most cases. This is most likey because they want you to buy a truck. The days of getting a 1/2 ton equiv in a car are pretty much over. In GM land, the party ended with the 1996 model year.

I towed our 19' Bambi with a 1996 Impala SS. It towed that great and had an even less powerful V8 compared to todays sports like cars (260 hp). Of course not being able to leave well enough alone, I modded the driveshaft, gears, controller arms, cooling, CPU, intake, etc. The car now has well over 325hp and gobs of torque. It however still doesn't tow my Safari all that well, compared to my 3/4 Suburban, but now I have 25' 2004 that weighs over a ton more than the Bambi did. It did however, even in stock form, tow the Bambi flawlessly (and it was within the manufacs specs). As a result of towing the 25er it was more than the frame was suppose to have, even though I did a lot of mods to enhance it further, the cars is showing signs of stresses put upon it. Keep in mind this is the exact same car that was used in police fleets. They are built to take extreme beatings, but be careful because even the most stout vehicle can and will deflect loads beyond tolerances if you take them beyond the what the manufac suggests. My SS no longer tows my 6300lb Safari, and hasn't for years, but there are now some issues with it that I would clearly and a good level of comfort say were directly caused by me yanking around nearly 2000 more lbs than the frame should have been exposed to, and the SS is a full frame car, not unibody (at least in the early to mid 90s versions).

Why don't you take a look at the Airstream Classifieds here? There's a 2006 19 foot Bambi Safari in Queen Creek, AZ (link below). It can't hurt at all to go take a look at it.

Buying used from a private party in Arizona, you're not required to pay the hefty sales tax as you would with a dealer. It sounds like the unit you're looking at is used. Used is used, even if only driven off the lot, and price will reflect that. You're basically taking the seller's word for it as to how much it was used.

I've read positive comments on this forum about Oasis RV in Tucson, but have read negative comments about Dillons in Mesa.
