Better use for desk space

Has anyone followed through on removing desktop and replacing with small corner sofa behind the dinette in the CCD22? We have looked this over and over and think it would be snug but much better use of space. Our 22 has everything we want except a place to snuggle (okay, the bed is great but we want it to last more than one year)

We thought this would work -- has anyone else thought or done it?

I don't see how there's enough room back there to make this a worth while effort.

Behind the dinette space

I would like to see a CCD with the desk removed and the bathroom modified to extend across the back like the earlier trailers. That way, it wouldn't have to be a wet bath and even a bathtub could be fitted like the earlier trailers.

By extending the bathroom across the back, the galley could be made a bit bigger because the bathroom wouldn't have to extend quite as far forward. The freed-up space could be used as more counter space or a pantry could be fitted.

I have seen a lot of posts commending the across-the-rear bathrooms. A layout like this should please many folks, especially those who balk at a wet bath.

Bring this older thread forward as well - Bump as they say I think

This is the one thing I though of as soon as I started to look at the 03-06 22' CCD as a very viable option to purchase a newer trailer.

There was no where just to sit with knees up and read a book or look out the window staring into oblivion while you listen to music (of course when it is pooring rain or the bugs are just on blood fest mode.)

Hopefully if all goes well and we get one it will be one of the off season renos - but we will live with it as long as we can for now - cause it is the "renos" that is killing us right now and just want to camp.

I have been doing the comparison to the Safari of the same years - Aluminum is what we are in love with - and the view - either from the big windows and of course the side window open - huge negative for us - as we like the fresh air as opposed to the AC all the time.

Negative - door opening up onto one of the windows - anyone over the years come up with a neat stopper system or does it have one? - not that we leave the door open that much and just have the screen with the dogs. What they can not see will not interest them And saves on the screening considerably

Any and all thoughts on any mods you have made to the 22' CCD for added comfort or convenience would be greatly appreciated.

If you need to unload it, I know someone who would be willing to take the '61 O'lander off your hands...

Plans for change

We love the 22' CCD ... it fits in almost any camp site, the galley has more counter top than larger units, the interior is bright, the windows are well placed, and the wetbath wastes no space.

Like you, we would like a lounge area and have plans to convert the bed at the hitch end to a U-shaped seating area. Plans are not final, but we currently envision a table next to the wardrobe and an L-couch wrapping around the front to the nightstand. The couch would be roomy enough for one person to sleep without modification. We have found the current bed arrangement to be slightly uncomfortable for two, and are considering using the dinette for a second sleeping space. We'll see...

The suicide door was definitely a bad design feature for this trailer. We either leave the front curbside window or the door open, but not both.

I don't have any measurements so it is difficult to plan future renos - if any other than the little corner settee in pace of the desk...

But fleeting thoughts I have had already.....

Some sort of system that lets the rear dinette seat flip back (fold down) to join up with the back settee to make a longer bed so that two people could sleep sort of feet to feet allowing both to get out without having to crawl over. Another option is remove the side dinette and make that length of the trailer like the new 31' "toy hauler side couch dinette - I think the trailer is still wide enough and you could employ the slide out style couches they have used for the past couple of years Instead a "couch" per see.

I do like your idea of the up front seating - but prefer the side looking out as opposed to the front usually at the road where you are parked.

Except at our water front lot we could pull her around so that the front is looking down the lake and be a nice view to wake up in the morning with those big front windows.

My immediate extra bed solution is to look at some sort of hammock set up - single bunk system - anyone have ideas with the 22' CCD layout?

Do you think the centre roof ribs would be strong enough to support a hammock down the middle? guess the factory would know that - wonder if they have ever done it.

LL Bean sells a nice breathable double nylon hammock (rather than mesh which would be perfect for me - when I take the parents for little overnight trips.

I am just really excited that I have found a trailer - from a "Silver Sister" no less. Details of course all pending - not saying too much don't want to put any jinx on anything.....

Although Lady Bug is giving me the very evil eye right now - but I am sure she will come around...

Yes also agree the suicide door not the greatest but there are other pluses to the trailer that I like that compensate more than the inconvenience.

I guess they have not come up with the perfect trailer yet - but they are working on it.

But this one is pretty darn close for us - without having to move up to the next level of Tow Vehicle - which right now is a big determining factor for the next few years.

Shortly after we bought our 22 CCD last year I did see another one on the west coast, CA, that had this exact remodel. It was on RV Trader. The return portion of the desk was removed leaving the cabinet with the drawer and heater as an end table. The small sofa had storage space under the cushion via a hinged seat. It looked like a very doable option. I have not been able to convince my DH that he should take on that project. He seems to like the trailer as it was designed.

I do agree that is one of the only things this bug is missing. The desk is silly. I love the counter space and the storage is adequate, however I think there is much wasted space under the bed that is inaccessible with the drawer arrangement. The wet bath is not so bad. Much more room than the separate shower/bath arrangements in other small AS. We have boat matting on the floor of the bath to keep feet and shoes dry and out of puddles, plus we squeegy the walls after showering.

It is the perfect size to get into any location.
