Thanx for the photos. They give me new confidence that I, too, could get on a ferry with our Lucy.

Crazy Ferry...

This ferry was going across the mississippi river in Louisiana. The scary part is they could take a 50' rig and mine is 48' I found out. I have never seen a ferry load this way, regular cars would go on and turn right then U-turn and wait in line. This had me freaked out, luckily they have room for only 1RV per run and I was able to pull on straight, and pull off straight.

It made for some cool pics, kids enjoyed it as well.

Nova Scotia to Newfoundland Ferry

Well, if we are showing pictures of loading on a ferry, here's one from July. Yes the lanes are rather skinny

U Turns

From the pictures it looked like you would have to u-turn, I was wondering how you were going to do that ! Straight is good! Love it, I hope we get to do this one day! I want to ride the Mississippi and I want to do it with the Aluminum. Even if it is only a quick trip. Cheers!

My old 'hood!

Hey SS, that wouldn't happen to be the White Castle Ferry btw BR and NOLA would it? I grew up there and since my old folks loved crossing the ferry, guess it reminded them of simpler times. Great to get out the car and let the river breeze hit you, watch the boat wake, chat up your fellow riders, etc. We still have many such ferries down here in LA.

Fotochop..

That ferry was just outside of St.Francisville. We were on our way from Memphis TN. to my father in laws camp house for T-giving. We decided to take the more scenic and laidback route than just superslab interstate.

Kids got a real kick out of the ferry!

On the way to the San Juans from Anacortes. Big ticket--you'd think you were going to the super bowl or something! Size does matter.

Ludington to Manitowoc

The ferry from Ludington Michigan to Manitowac Wisconsin across Lake Michigan. Trucks and RVs are backed in by the ferry's drivers. Oh I was nervous, I mean it's an Airstream, watch that aluminum! Phew, it went just fine.

The ship built in 1952 has a buffet, a snack shop, a bartender, game room, movies, tvs, playroom, museum, gift shop, bingo, and private rooms, kind of a mini cruise. Takes three or four hours to get across.

Smile Hatteras to the Pearl of the Outer Banks (Ocracoke Island)

Hey this is a great thread. Great photos all. Carol I can't wait to try out the Ludington ferry having seen your pix thanks!

In May 2005 we drove through the outer banks to the Hatteras Ferry and took it to Ocracoke Island. The ferry is run by NC Dept of Transportation. Since there are frequent ferries and its a short trip, they gave us two lanes, took about 30 minutes to get there. The ferry has vending machines, some seating, and restrooms since its not a long trip there's not a restaurant or anything. We had a great experience and they took lots of rvs that were much bigger than our 28' 1979 Airstream. I'd go again in a heartbeat, felt safe and they were super polite too!

SafariSS, I saw your pics of the road to the ferry, I said, is this dejavu or what. I thought it looks like the St. Francisville - New Roads. Sure enough. Question: Did you visit Rosedown Plantation while you were visiting St. Francisville ? Here's a few pics, if you didn't.
