Identifying an old Airstream
How can I tell what model and year an Airstream trailer is? Can only find a 4 digit number on a label attached to the trailer. Cannot find any numbers or letters stamped into the A frame behind the hitch which I have read is where the serial number is located. I have photos if that would help. Thanks.

If you can post the pictures that might help. Some of the folks here are very good at identifying the older trailers.

Look for a data plate riveted to the aluminum shell itself.
Send pictures.

If the 4 digit number is on a plate by the door that may be all the info there is on the trailer. For my 55FC this is actually the vin. I had a pretty good time convincing the MVD too! As previously stated, try to get a few good pictures, front, rear , and both sides. The collectors here should be able to give you a quick answer.

Ok, the 4 digit number on the plate by the door is 7997. Just found the info on how to post photos to this so will do that tomorrow. It's late on the east coast now and they are on the other computer upstairs. I have front, sides, and rear photos so that may be helpful. Thanks so very much to all who have responded so far. Ron

So what's the secret to posting images? I'm authorized but they're looking for a hyperlink.

Yes, if the image is hosted at another site you can hyperlink to it (may be more complicated than it seems at first).
I find it easier to resize the images, 'Save as' to my desktop, and then attach it by uploading from my computer. The full explanation here in the Forums 101 thread > http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...tml#post612569

He doesn't own this Airstream, it is for sale and he went and looked at it. I think he is going to post some picture of it today.

This is the one
My apologies to all who have been reading my post, questioning how to tell what year and model an Airstream is. I wasn't able to get back to posting the photos I have of this trailer due to a call from our RE agent in Fredericksburg who is working on finding a tenant for our condo up there. He had an offer that I needed to review with him, then he sent the lease he is going to present for our review. Found a couple of updates he needed to include so all of that took priority away from this subject. Again, my apologies to those who have asked me questions and I see my post is getting several comments.
Now for the photos I have of this trailer. The plate photo Ben posted is the one. Apparently the owner (Drew) is also interested in verifying exactly what he has for sale.
I do not own it as my son posted for me, and only intersted in purchasing it. It is listed for sale @ $2,000, has been gutted and would require total refurbishing. Outer shell is in pretty good shape for it's age. Interior is another story.
Here's 4 photos; front, rear, and each side.

Photo of front
Couldn't get the 4 th photo to upload with the others, so will send it separately. Was too large, so have made it smaller. It is of the front of this Airstream for sale in Leesville. Just got a response from the RE agent in Fredericksburg so will have to attend to that new Lease so it can get presented. Bye for now,........ back soon.

from the various externals I would hazard some guesses about this trailer. Probably originally twin beds (curbside rear access door) propane reefer(curbside upper vent) Probably 90" wide (front window dividers match center strip width). Also looks as if all three vents have been replaced (ugly!!) and an undersink water heater added (streetside access door).
Price seems reasonable for an awesome whale tail- Yes I admit to being biased, as long as you can get a clear title. A lot of work but surely it will be worth it in the end.
