TAC Stone Mt. Christmas Rally 2013

Just floating the idea as to feasibility. To be held the first week of December 2013 at Stone Mt. Park, Georgia. The entire park is lit up with over two million lights all decked out for the Christmas season. Enjoy the guaranteed snow at Snow Mountain and take in a great bob sled ride down the hill, all safe and fun. Enjoy the Polar Express 4-D experience, Cross Road Christmas Parades and more than a dozen performances at Christmas at Stone Mountain Park.

Decorate your trailer for the season, get a good campfire going in the evening and make some hot chocolate.

Post a reply if this is a rally you would attend much later this year.

Great idea John!

I love southern camping in months when we can't camp in the north! However, that same (northern) weather is what might prevent me from getting the Airstreams out. No travelling in the salt with them!

The travel time for my family to Stone Mountain is personally a bit prohibitive at without holidays around it. We've done the day-off thing for a rally in GA before and been unhappy with the amount of time on the road vs. time we can dedicate to the rally itself. Depending on how the voting results go, I'd suggest the week/end of Thanksgiving. I know for many that means big family gatherings and shopping, but my family doesn't do much and we usually find somewhere to go on vacation since the kids and I are off minimum Thurs, Fri that weekend. I'd even volunteer to cook a turkey in the Airstream oven!

Silver:

That is a very intense time for me. If it was over the Christmas break that would work perfectly.

Stone Mountain Park Camping in December 2013

It sounds fun to me, but I only live 45 minutes away from the Park.

TAC has accepted us "currently looking"/non-airstreamers before and if they will again then we'd love to join in.

I think a Christmas Rally would be fun but just not seeing enough interest posted to warrant a rally. Will keep this thread up a little longer so respond if you would come.

I think that even if the airstream group doesn't get a rally going I'd make plans to do this anyway. I've wanted to have a Christmas camping experience and this is close enough for us to do. I'll wait until after it's decided its a no-go to make my reservations but I'll post my reservations here so if over time others want to join in for an 'unplanned' camping get away we can gather.

Also, I can post this on the vintage shasta trailer forum to see if others from that forum are interested if the that's okay with you silverexpress.

Sure, maybe the vintage groups could generate enough interest to make a go of it. I'm interested. Stone Mt Park does a super job for the holiday season and heck your guaranteed enough snow to go tubing down!

Good deal. I've found the first week of December is pretty good for travel and doesn't unduly conflict with folks family traditions. If there is a lack of interest we can call this a meetup rather than a rally. Whoever shows is just fine. No big expectations.

well i thought it was a good weekend since we have that first week (M-F) off from work so we'll book starting from thurs. i've never camped there except in the purple loop...how about you silverexpress? assuming its available...my thought is to book on the sunny side of the loop (140-149) and away from the lake breezes. i figure it will be cold enough.

I expect we will try for the purple loop. The weather can be uncertain but I have seen some nice days during that time.

well it turns out that there is little interest on the Shasta forum either so a meet up it is. most of the sites are still available in the purple loop so we'll still have a chance to have a small group if people change their minds later. i'll be booking soon and when I do i'll post my site.

I'd put off making the reservation until I heard, which I did today...we're moving to TX so I won't be making it to Stone Mountain after all.

A job opening came up very suddenly and within the past week they offered it my husband. Great news on the job front (finally) but bittersweet leaving my GA family behind. He starts June 1st so there's lots to do in so short a time.

I look forward to new rally friends in the TX area, See ya'll soon!

I will probably come down to visit. I am still not done with the 1960. Very close so hopefully I will get it finished. One more year left and I can Airstream 365 days a year. Signed my last contract. HHHHOOOOOORRRRAHHHHH

Sounds like a nice meet up for a Stone Mountain Christmas and Snow mountain sledding.

yea! we're not moving after all!!

so, we're on for stone mountain for dec 6-8. I've also gotten a yes from another member from the Shasta site. Shall we give this a go after all and just hope others will join in once we're committed? I leave it up to you silverexpress. we can also post this on the southern vintage trailer fb page where we might get some interest, but again, i'll leave it up to you since this is currently 'your baby'.

I started a glampingforum recently (www.glampingforum.com) and have posted it to that site already.

I'll keep you up to date with any interest I get.

For now I am just leaving this as a meetup event with everyone making their own reservations and with no planned events other than those that might occur once everyone arrives.

I just booked my site as 167a arriving dec 5 leaving dec 8.

I chose that side/area so that when others join us we can be across from each other as opposed to down a straight line. I currently have 3 others saying they are interested and i'll let them all know today that I've booked my site. I'll update here as needed.

Despite the lack of commitments, Stone Mountain has given me a rally rate of $41/night and are holding 10 sites for us...I believe they are 163-167a. Be sure to mention my name or the Glamping Forum when you make your reservation so they book you into one of those sites (you can choose which one) and give you the discounted rate.

This is still an informal gathering with no schedule of events but if enough people are interested I can certainly schedule some planned activities for us. I'd love to have Christmas light displays, pot lucks and even some bingo. I have this listed in so many sites (tct, Shasta forum, vintage trailer rallys and others) that I may miss posting something so the most up to date info can be found on my forum www.glampingforum.com under the glamptogethers.
