We're working on a welcome packet that will point out some local attractions. I thought it might be helpful to put this out before the rally so people could plan ahead on what they might want to do. Wooster is a small town, but there are a couple places which are worth mentioning and less than a 10 minute drive from the rally site.

Wooster-area Places of Interest: Wooster is the home to about 26,000 residents and features a thriving downtown area minutes away from the Wayne county fairgrounds. It’s also the home of the College of Wooster and the Ohio State Agricultural and Technical Institute.

Smuckers Company Store
This is the factory store for Smuckers and their other brands (Hungry Jack, Jif, Pillsbury, Crisco, Martha White, Dickinson’s, Crosse & Blackwell, R.W. Knudsen, Santa Cruz Organic). 333 Wadsworth Road Orrville, OH 44667 (330) 684-1500

Everything Rubbermaid
This is located in downtown Wooster in an historic 4 story building. They have the largest selection of Rubbermaid products anywhere in the world. 115 South Market Street Wooster, OH 44691 (330) 264-7119

Hartzler Family Dairy
They are Ohio’s only producer of low heat pasteurized, unhomogenized milk from grass fed cows. They still sell in glass bottles. They also make some amazing ice cream.
5454 Cleveland Road Wooster, Ohio 44691 330-345-8190

P. Graham Dunn Factory Store 630 Henry Street Dalton, OH 44618 866-922-0306

Local Roots
This is basically a farmer’s market co-op located in downtown Wooster. It’s where we sell our garden produce in the summer. 140 S. Walnut Street, Wooster, OH 44691 • 330-263-5336
If anyone gets Mother Earth News, it’s featured on page 19 of the Feb/March issue.

Secrest Arboretum (Ohio State University) 1328 Dover Road Wooster, OH 44691 (330) 263-3761

Troutman Vineyards 4243 Columbus Road (Route 3 South) Wooster, Ohio 44691 330.263.4345

Warthers Museum The Smithsonian has listed Ernest “Mooney” Warther’s carvings as “priceless work of art.” You can see his 64 ebony, ivory and walnut train carvings as well as his wife’s, Frieda Warther, collection of 73,000 buttons. Admission is $13/adult and $8 for kids 7 – 17 years old. This is about 1 ½ hours drive from Wooster. 331 Karl Ave. Dover, Ohio 44622 330-343-7513

I have contacted all the campers who are on the sign up list for the rally. If you have not received a personal email from me, please contact either Jason and Andrea or Hank and Kathy (all rally hosts) through Air Forums. We are collecting information as to how many adults and children will attend. This will determine how many information packets and how much food will be needed.

Look forward to seeing and greeting all of you in April. It is going to be here soon.

You can stock up on Guggisburg swiss cheese while in the area. We ran out and needed to purchase some at our local Kroger - EXPENSIVE!!! Much better buy it while in the area where it is made. If you go to Troyer's grocery, leave room for an ice cream cone while walking around. You can get it right in the store! Usually a line waiting in the summer. Should be easier at this time of year...and it is good ice cream which you will find in practically all the stores you might visit!! While in the area, you might want to visit a 10/10/10 campground - the only one in Ohio, I believe. We always spend some time at Evergreen just at the eastern edge of Mt. Eaton. Great store for Amish cookies, cakes, pasteries, etc...they also have some items for the TT. Indoor swimming pool, and weekend ice cream goods in the game room. And I mean ice cream goods! They pile it deep and wide - you get more than your monies worth here! We like this campground! Check it out - it'll be on the way to Dover if you wish to visit the train museum....and that is certainly worth the price of admission. Just seeing one of the locomotives is worth the admission price! We purchased 2 or 3 of the knives - great cutting tools! Should be an outstanding weekend. See you there!!

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to everyone coming to the rally. When Kathy and I began planning this, I said I'd be happy with 10 Airstreams (including our own). There's currently 21 on the Yes RSVP list and 16 on the maybe. I'm truly taken back by the response. Thank you all.

The excitement is building by the day for me. I'm unfortunately not able to take vacation starting on Wed., but we will be staying overnight there starting Wed. night. I work in Wooster so I will be commuting to work from the rally and I'm sure that I will be coming to the rally site for lunch. Hopefully the workdays are short, too.

Since we're talking about the Amish attractions around the rally site............I heard on the news that Lehman's was flooded this week with the terrible rain storms we had. I hope they get it all cleaned up and reopened before the rally. I'm not certain which of their two locations was flooded.

I hadn't heard anything about Lehman's being closed. I checked out their facebook page and it said that they'll be open again on Friday. It also said that they opened a brand new room in the Kidron store, the housewares room.

I think we'll have to stop by and check it out. I also saw that they have a stainless steel soap dish on sale this month. I'm thinking the new airstream kitchen might need one.

We were just there two weeks ago and spent almost $200 and I'm ready to go back. That store is so dangerous for me.

OK, we are getting very excited about the first trip for the season and starting the planning phase of the 8-9 hour drive, 350 miles. The big question is do we stop near Pittsburg for a night, I have a feeling I will be making a lot more stops with the wife being 7 months pregnant. If anyone was going to take I-76 to Wooster where would you stop. Most of the places that I have been reading on Google has terribel reviews. Not looking for much, only safe & clean.

Also is there a price range for the gift thing or is what ever goes. Been racking my brain for something good.

I would suggest $20 or less, but there is no set price range. I spent $10 on the gift we're bringing. It's unusual, available only in this area, and it makes me laugh every time I see it. Jason thinks it's stupid but I like it and am overruling him.

I got my gift at Crackerbarrel for somewhere between $10 and $15. I like it so much I may have to go back and get one just for me.

Andrea covered the gift side of things...now for where to stop. You're right...nowhere. I've not done a courtesy park search recently for that area, but in the past I know I've found very little. Last time we traveled through there, we pulled off the toll road SE of 'burgh and overnighted in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Once you get off of the tool road on to I-76 in Ohio, it opens up a multitude of options. There's a cracker barrel every so often (a favorite stop of mine). There's also West Branch State Park just off of I-76. It offers the usual SP amenities and in early April they probably would have a spot for you, too.

Hi everyone:

The rally cost has finally been nailed down. It will be $22 per Airstream for the three meals. Details of the planned meals are on the Rally Calendar page. When you arrive, your host(s) will collect two checks from you (sorry for the inconvenience of two, but it helps with the potential cover-our-@ss aspect). One will be for $12/night for the camping fee, the other will be for $22 (not per night, a one-time fee).

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

-Jason

IF I can get my 68 Safari done we will be there. It is only about 45 miles from home, our first rally, our first trip in the AS, and our first trip with a camping trailer. Been working on it for about 6 months, maybe one more month. Still a maybe, but sure hoping. THanks trapperman33
