One thing you must remember when on the Trace, pull outs are numerous but parking is limited and usally two or three trailers will fill a parking area, I would suggest that you travel in groups of two or three with a predetermined overnight stopping area.

Luckily I have been at the Lewis Meriwether campground in the last week of October twice before. Both times, the campground was about half empty, and the campground host had left for the season. If 2011 is anything like 2009 and 2006, we should be fine.

I will, however, make arrangements for a back-up location in the even that the spaces we need are not available.

REVISED Itinerary

TAC Natchez Trace Caravan 2011
Saturday 22nd - Sunday 30th October 2011

Saturday 22nd: Meet up in Natchez MS at a full service site
Sunday 23th: afternoon departure to Jackson MS (Rocky Springs campground) 54 miles
Monday 24th: Tupelo, MS (Jeff Busby campground) 139 miles
Tuesday 25th: Bay Springs Lake at a full service site ~75 miles
Wednesday 26th: Meriwether Lewis Monument (Passing through AL into TN) ~125 miles
Thursday 27th: full service site in Nashville, TN 64 miles
Friday 28th: After exploring Nashville, nice big meal and get together, maybe some live music...
Saturday 29th: Hang around or head off home...
Sunday 20th: Ditto!

With this itinerary, there would be sites with power and dump stations on Sat/Sun, Tues/Wed and Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun.

I'm going to work with TAC and Work on making the Fri/Sat/Sun a full rally, organized separately!

Estimated cost start to finish, around $250-350 plus gas for 500 miles plus side trips. People would come and go as they pleased. There would be no fees or "kitty" to pay into. People could join for any part of the trip.

I can't speak for the rest of you, but my journey home will be going right back down Natchez Trace, stopping near the bottom, then returning to Austin, TX the next day

Jeff Busby is not close to Tupelo. In fact, it is not very close to anything. There are several very nice places in the Tupelo area, just not right on the trace. As I stated in an earlier post Trace State Park has lots of space with full hookups

I'm in Texas. To me, everything in Mississippi is close to Tupelo!

You're right, that campground is some distance from Tupelo, and my descriptions will be a lot clearer in the next update to the itinerary. There's a lot of cool places to visit around Jackson and I think the Jeff Busby location is good for a "more south" campground.

I'm working on which specific campgrounds to get details for so people can make reservations, but the itinerary needs to settle down first, or people will be making reservations for the wrong night I have listened to your suggestions and been reading/researching and making a lot of phone calls to campgrounds to find things like they'll be closed, or require us to check in by 4pm, or (my favorite) "we don't take block bookings because there's always noise, drinking and trouble!" Must be those SOBs!

Dave,

Sounds like fun. Will look for ways to work my schedule into it. Maybe if I'm working in Texas at the time we can caravan up to Tupelo.

Sounds like fun. Sue and I are headed up to Virginia in a few weeks and were thinking of stopping over in Natchez Trace - somewhere - on the way. We're getting married Oct. 10th and are taking our maiden voyage to visit the Blue Ridge mountains - looking for places to stop along the way and NT SP looks like a good stopping point for our first days drive from East Texas. We'll keep up with this posting for 2011! Peace.

It is a very lovely route - especially at this time of year! September through to the end of October, it's sunny, not too hot or cold, and watching the leaves turn is a wonderful thing.

Night 1 location

How about a couple of shots from Rocky Springs - the target of night #1...and a comment or two. I pulled in at 7:30 yesterday morning (a Thursday) and there were 4 open spots. All but 3 of the campers are from Canada...some local campers are raising a concern that the folks from Canada literally taking over the campground for the max stay of 15 days during March and October. Anyway...for an arriving camper, the only way to check availability is to show up...and ya better have a backup plan!

Great Idea, my wife and I are reworking a 1972 Overlander and that would be a great trip to shoot for. We live on the coast in South Mississippi and a trip like that would be fantastic.

With my health issues I won't be able to run it or attend it. If anyone else has interest in taking over the thread, they're welcome. Otherwise, no, sorry, it's not happening.

That said, it's a basically free event, before gas and food - so anyone can do it any time they like - just, without the fabulous company of other amazing airstreamers.

Dave, convalescing.

Yes...we would still be interested if gas prices don't get too ridiculous! So sorry to learn that Dave is having health issues. Hope he improves soon.
