The most recent posts seem to be leaning toward a consensus of Columbus Day weekend...Columbus Day is Monday, 8 October...

safari57 and jcanavera...has there been any response to your note to Airstream?

Nope no response at this point. I didn't expect this to be dealt with them this year. I'm still thinking the Columbus day weekend is still the best bet. Why not try it? It has to start somewhere.

I love the idea of having the Airstream dealers host sort of an Airstream Show like all the car shows around here in the Summer. Of course Oklahoma doesn't actually have an AS dealer, but I bet I could tow to Arkansas with enough warning. I'm missing the Branson Rally (darn) so I'm about ready for anything. Who knows, I might be talked in to something new and silver at a dealership. (Don't tell the Twink I said that!!!)

Car shows are usually one day events. You see the featured autos on the highways leading to and afterward the event site. An Airstream 'show' in a fairgrounds, etc. with encouragement for the public to attend a see our rigs inside as well as out would be a local hit. It could probably be paid for by inviting related vendors to set up booths. Maybe I am thinking too BIG at this stage but just think if it were a coordinated event countrywide. What an inpact! Just a week ago a park ranger/host was admiring our Trade Wind and commenting that when he was young he remembered seeing caravans of Airstreams on the highways. He looked a little surprised when I answered that it still happens.

We got all-most as many comments on our Stream at last Summer's Early Ford V/8 Club National Meet as we did on "Bertha". Car shows are our second favorite passtime. It was a five day meet and was a great opportunity to combine both our OBSESSIONS.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this. Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. There is certainly a desire to make this work. I know when ever we show up in a campground people watch and many come over to ask questions.
Finding a date that works for many is a challenge. For those who are retired, or in areas where the weather is conducive to October camping, it is great. It is my understanding that there are quite a number of folks with kids in school, or who work Columbus day it would seem, or sadly already have their trailers winterized = egad, we are getting to that time of year again.

That said, we do need a date. So I suggest we work with the 5th of October weekend and see if it works based on feedback and picture posts from those who are able to do this. This is the first year so what the heck, we can determine if it works or not and if it needs to change next year, so be it.

The other thought is there's absolutely no reason why there couldn't be a spring/summer one, and a fall one in my mind.

Now I have to figure out where to go that weekend. This is going to be fun. I'll have my sign in the back window as well noting that it's International Airstream Appreciation Weekend and see if I get any questions.

Barry
