This one month historical record is very interesting. If you like cool night time sleeping, Slippery Rock is the place!

I might suggest you folks bring a light jacket or sweat shirt for the evening time. I sure hope not to hear Carl's furnace going.

Frank, the Canadians coming better have their passports with them

Lightbulb Local Knowledge

The maps are telling me to go I-80 all the way there ...

How much fun will THAT route be 4th of July weekend?

My parents live in the Poconos - they say construction on 80 has been horrible this summer. Even without that, 80 is mind-numbingly boring and desolate. We crossed PA on 80 a few years back and don't care to do it again.

Our plan, one that is far from sorted out - 84 to 81 and then follow Rob Baker's suggestions earlier in this thread. Failing that, there are some lovely roads crossing lower NY state; I remember cruising them in my college days, schleping back and forth to Rochester in my old Buick.

Of course, 20 years later, I don't remember exactly which roads they are...

I think 80 is going to the best way to come. You can come across NY but it is going to be many more mile. You could take the PA Pike. But you have to pay the tolls and it will be more miles also. I think the best thing to do is travel late at night. You have all the roads to yourself. I have done this many times heading up to Maine. Leave in the evening drive as far as you can. Then boondock at a rest-stop for a few hours. Then get back on the road early AM. If you do it that way you still have the whole day when you get to Coopers Lake.

Ace

Hope that helps.

Sigh. I think you're right Ace. A NY route adds at least 2.5 hours. At least we won't be going back across 80 on the way (eventually) home...

Don the best route for you to take is the one that brings you to the Bash the soonest. Not sure what route number that is, not sure about milage, or how many rest stops are needed. I just know, when ever the soonest you can arrive, is my choice.

You too Tom, what ever route gets you there soonest...

If I were coming out of New England on Holiday weekend I would use 84 west to 81 down to 80 west.

You do not want to be around the Poconos between 380 in Pa. and New York through New Jersey on 80 during that time going or coming and pulling a trailer.

Tom, Ace, Frank, Howie,

Thanks! I didn't think there would be any better routes ...
Late at night seems to be the ONLY way to travel around these parts.
(Getting tunes ready to go now.)

BTW, I am now incorporating BACON into our Friday mixer offering.
I don't care if it IS cliche, dammit.

Exclamation Blasphemy!

Who would want to mix bacon with rocketry?!?

Asparagus, yes.
Carrots or turnips or leeks maybe
perhaps some celery ...

Not bacon!

I am also bringing sausage links.

I wonder if I should have ordered more than 100 pounds of bacon...

100 lbs of bacon we are going to need a big rocket engine. Look out now you have thinking about sausage.

Agreed. We're leaving after work (so not late enough to avoid traffic) Wednesday, going out 84, staying at Promised Land State Park in PA (not far off 84), then dropping down to 80 on some local two-lane (390 to 940).

At least 80 is where I got my best fuel economy ever when towing...although that runs counter to Frank's idea of getting there ASAP...

Jason is going to pull the Airstream out of the barn today so that I can start packing. In order to plan for the all important potlucks and happy hours I was checking out the rally schedule on the calendar. Is that the most current schedule of events?
